Re: Roger confirm's he's having a son (according 2 swiss tabloids)
I hope they will give him his own personal name, not Peter (even if Peter being pronounced the German way, it would sound less awkward than "Piiiit") or Rodney or something.
I hope a Swiss/German or Slovakian or South-African name (Mirka is originary from Slovakia if I don't make any mistake ?), something related with their personal roots.

You know it's common nowadays that old first names come back as a fashion.
Victor for instance has been very fashionable some years ago ... as it had been after the first world war

I don't understand why so many seem to have a preference for a boy. In my experience, little girls have a very special and sweet relationship with their dads (I did with mine) ... I've got no preference either way ... its not my baby after all !!

When people throw out names like Roland are they just doing for a laugh? Or do people seriously think it's a nice name for a boy? My dad who is 72 years old is named Roland and ever since I've been alive family and friends alike have made fun of his name.

Not a bad name at all, I think. French, classy. Can't imagine why someone would make fun of it. (of course, things are different when you're the son of the Tennis GOAT)...
Let's just hope he doesn't call his kid 'Frodo'.
(Yep I know someone whose Hippie Parents dubbed their kid that. )

It'll be Wolfgang.

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.
The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

Oh well. Roger already said he's not naming his baby Roland. Let's hope it's not something way out there like celebrities usually name their kids.

As I said, my grandfather was called Victor as he was born after the first world war (Victor meaning "victory"), and his uncles dead during the first world war were also called Victor (whereas they were born far before the first world war ) and when I was a kid, no child was called Victor.
Then when I was a kid, I thought it was a very very old first name.
And then 10 years ago, in the schools, there were many many little "Victors" everywhere
Louis, Oscar, Gabin also used to be very old first names, but they're coming back now.
Then you know when you speak about "old first names"
In my eyes, what sounds quite ridiculous in France is all these fashions about Latin (Matteo) or Celtic (Erwann) or Jewish (Noah) sounding first names
Here are the top-first names in 2006 in France : Enzo Mathis Lucas Hugo Matheo Nathan Theo Noah Matteo Thomas.
Always two syllables, many "o" or "as" or "is" or "an" : so many sounding the same
For the girls it's a festival of "a" : Emma Eva Lea Clara Lola Lena Lisa
Anyway, what's important is that the child and the mother are healthy. The rest I hope the boy will not suffer too much from his father's fame.

You know I could see him liking some slightly crazy name, he is good friends with people like Gavin Rossdale etc who have slightly odd names for their kids (though I actually like his kid's names) & then you get someone like Lindsay Davenport who you'd think would go for the most normal name ever & called her son Jagger (I suppose she could just be a huge Rolling Stones fan or something ). I think there could be a slightly odd name about to appear but maybe not as the first name, maybe it'll be a crazy middle name

As Karin said I actually think Roland is a very nice name, well it depends how it's pronounced. Roland (Rolin) or Roland as like it's french origin?

I hope it's a girl. Just because everyone is focusing on boys names.

Me too.
And not just because of the reason you already gave, but also because I somehow sense some feeling of the kid being a boy would be 'better' than it being a girl going around over here.
Sorry but I just can't help but feel very about that kind of sentiments. We've gone beyond the Stone Age, people.
At least I hope so.
