FITD Points Change
Hi all,
We are currently discussing a change to the way points are allocated for picks in FITD.
The current system's main flaw is that it awards the correctly chosen winner of an ATP tournament far far far more points than the ATP do and means the winner is heavily weighted on the outcome of the FITD order.
I.e. in a 250 tournament a correctly picked winner gets 10 + 45 + 90 + 150 + 250 = 545 points
With the new system of points, we try to mirror the ATP so that a correctly chosen winner gets 10 +35 + 45 + 60 + 100 = 250 total - i.e. the same as an ATP tournament winner.
Or in other words, if you correctly pick someone to win round 1, they get round 1 points, if you pick someone to get to the QF, and they manage it, they get QF points like in the ATP.
We now need you to vote, to say whether you think this change should be implemented now. Thanks a lot.

Re: FITD Points Change
In my opinion and I THINK most manager's opinions, the new scoring system is much much better and fairer for the game. However the main argument is whether to introduce it right now. I think it should be introduced right now, because it doesn't affect the rankings points or the way in which you submit or think about submitting your draw.
Therefore, it has no effect on participants of FITD in real terms. In fact, most probably won't even notice the change and just accept it.
That is why I vote to introduce it now.
P.S. Poll closes prior to Wimbledon.

For the record, my argument against waiting is that it can mess with the FITD Race for this season, because this change does favor a different style or strategy in picking winners.
I understand the managers can adjust and make changes, but by nature certain players will be helped or hurt from this change.
I also feel that this is as good a reason as any to postpone the change. There are a few staunch supporters of the change who want it now (nothing wrong with that opinion), but I don't think it is overwhelmingly necessary to do it this second.

Re: FITD Points Change
I think the main argument for this issue is whether picking the winner is the most important thing in FITD. Do we want the game to be centred around picking the correct winner or based on an all-around well-picked draw even from the early rounds? You can see how the current system affected Roland Garros with the players who picked Federer to win finishing all on top (with not necessarily as many points as "Nadal pickers" from earlier rounds). Some could say that picking the winner is always important when predicting draws, but other people may feel all rounds should be weighted the same.
With that note, I voted that we start the new system now. (althought I've always loved shooting to the top after picking a random player who ends up winning the tournament )

Re: FITD Points Change
Well with your points in mind d_s, you still get THE MOST points (as it should be) for choosing the winner, just less of a gap than is was before.

Re: FITD Points Change
Yes, but picking the correct winner with the new system will not necessarily mean you will win the tournament.
With the current system, you are not guaranteed to finish on top either with the correct winner, although there is a greater chance that you will move up there.

Re: FITD Points Change
to me predicting a lot of early round matches correctly is a lot more impressive than just picking the dude who wins the whole thing

And you probably still would, but without going into orbit, as might happen to an Ollie Rochus fan this week.
I voted for a season-end change in deference to the people who have to do all the work, but it seems they are OK to change at any time.

Re: FITD Points Change
I obviously voted, but we can't change if it is a tie.

Re: FITD Points Change
I thought about it for awhile and decided to start it now. In the end, I don't think this is a drastic change and it is more fair - each round matches are weighted more evenly (although I think the total number of points for each round should be completely even, this is fine ).
EDIT: I noticed the "start it now" option went up a few votes between when I voted and made this post. It seems some of the votes were by people who haven't played this game in the last year.

Well, regardless, your one vote takes it over the 50% threshold anyway, so would that not be enough? First round scores are the same number of points anyway, so doesn't have to be final final til Wednesday night when 2nd round points start getting added.
