Re: Clay Season Thread 2009
Wrong thread but definitely spot on, Aurélien. Si jamais ils arrêtent le match de Gaël parce qu'il fait trop sombre, ils vont se prendre mon pied dans le...
I also agree with you, I can't remember the last time he was that nervous and getting angry on stupid things and making that many unforced errors. Those 1st and 3rd sets, Jo winning the second was a little miracle in itself already, he should have lost it considering the levels of play. He only won it because of mental strength and public support, but it wasn't enough to win two more sets It was painful to watch.
Delpo didn't look that impressive to me either, he did the job and he was calmer than I ever saw him, which is the most worrying thing for me
Bring on the grass !

Jo...
Painful match to watch at times for me but still great run for Jo in RG considering he had nothing to defend.

Well Gael may actually win tonight in 3, that would be a great performance.
Del Potro didn't impress me either, I think he will beat Robredo but will be broken by Federer in the semis.
"Bring on the grass !"
I also have very high expectations for Jo on the grass, if he plays well and doesn't have any other injury issue he should be able to beat anyone

Well I'm sorry but I hope so... although I'm French and I'm supporting Gael tonight, I am a pretty big fan of Roger and I hope he'll be able to win the open this year.
But Gael is making a very strong impression tonight, this won't be an easy job for Roger...

The way Gaël is playing now, I believe Federer will have more than a little trouble to defeat him

Re: Clay Season Thread 2009
Sorry Jo, that was a poor performance - too many unforced errors, low first serve percentage, Del Potro was simply solid and was tactically better...
But, it was fun while it lasted R16 is a decent achievement, considering that at the start of the tournament, we really had no idea how he would fare on clay. Turned out it was better than I expected, that's why I got so excited about a possible QF result , and now I've fallen back to earth with a loud bump
Now, onward and forward to grass Just stay well and healthy, regroup and take each new challenge at a time.

I'm impressed by how well Monfils has been playing. I thought he would be hampered by the knee problem, but this doesn't seem to have affected his movement so far. But then again, that's Monfils being Monfils - always taking risks, courting injury... My dad is one happy camper that Monfils is the last Frenchman standing.
I will interested to see where the French crowd's allegiance will be in the Monfils v Federer match. I fully understood that they were rooting for the underdog in the Nadal/Soderling match, but I was extremely disgusted how muted they were in their support for Haas in his courageous performance against Federer the first 2 3/4 sets. In the end, he had 3 opponents - Federer, the crowd and himself (self-doubt). I apologise to the French posters on this board for this criticism, but I do hope Monfils gets better encouragement against the public's darling.

Re: Clay Season Thread 2009
I am disappointed, confused and sad. Absolutely bad match, the worst I've seen on this tournament.
After this match I am feeling little aftertaste - I feel like this Roland Garros was absolute crash, total misfortune etc... So big contrast to 2nd round match - I was ready to say "It was great RG!" even though Jo lost in this!
And now - he lost in 4th - and I feel disappointment...

Re: Clay Season Thread 2009
Unfortunate but overall he did better than expected. Hopefully he can now have a great grass season.

Re: Clay Season Thread 2009
A decent RG overall, he beat a good claycourter in Monaco and gained points. Now comes the part of the season he likes the most, I'm hoping to see him play some great tennis on grass.
