How do we know for sure it's Roger. It seems like him (Had he lost, and he would have written 'It's a pity') we would have known for sure but we don't really know, do we?

Well Roger confirmed on his website that he has a facebook account and on his twitter page he tells people to view his facebook page instead.

I get it. So conditions only matter when Nadal looses.

Very happy to see Roger win today I hope it gives him more belief in himself when playing Rafa in the future.

Yay! 1st title of the year I'm glad for the first time in a long time that I gave in like I usually do after promising not to watch one of these finals again

As much as I hate the hype around Twitter, I prefer it over Facebook, as I already have a virtually unused Twitter account. So yeah, really hoping that's actually Roger, though if that's actually Roger, why hasn't Andy (Roddick) added him yet? Since Roger has added him as well. Idk, I get the feeling Roddick would add Federer back if that was actually him.

Speaking of Roddick and Twitter... finally then rain went away and got to hit for bit..... gonna grab some food and try to get to bed early tonight.... props to fed ongeveer 5 uur ago from web

I love these two.

Aaand I just noticed these three updates on Roger's Facebook:

It was a wonderful win today! Getting a Master Series 1000 title has been really important to me after not winning one last year. And winning one on clay against Nadal in Spain is massive!

Snapping his winning streak on clay has been a very difficult task but I take pride in knowing I have done in twice now. The Spanish fans were clearly rooting for nadal but they were very respectful and are great fans. We all celebrated a bit after but most important now is to rest for a day and then refocus on Paris and take the confidence with me there.

I will travel to Paris early next week to make sure I am perfectly prepared. Thanks for all the support. I will try and post a video later next week…..Roger

This is certainly possible. This is the first match in probably 7 or 8 years where he was a huge underdog. He was an underdog in most of the recent clay matches against Nadal, but all of them were close until RG '08. After that beating, betters had lost all hope that Fed would beat Nadal on clay. The betting line was massively in favor of Nadal, and everyone had all but written off any chance Federer had against Nadal on clay after losing to Nadal on grass and hard courts.

roger mentioned something in one of the articles that struck me...something so basic.

"I just wanted to stay positive".

I think he knows by now playing nadal that anything can happen-getting broken, losing 40-0 leads, blowing bps. so pretty much accept that it MIGHT happen and just play the points as points. So he was still calm even in the final game when he was down 15-40.

one thing i did for sure notice is that the points were unusually short today and nadal couldn't impose his grinding style on federer like usual. He also couldn't hook federer off the court on the big points on fed's bh side like he usually does and i think it has a lot to do with his lack of confidence on the madrid courts - where he been complaining about his rhythm. he just couldnt find his usual depth and federer executed quite a few one-two serve fh punches.

i also liked how federer took a little off his serve in the deuce court and was content to slide it out wide and control the points with his fh rather than go for the ace every time. when nadal has time he can hit a mean bh return in the deuce court off 2nd serves, but when you hit off pace 1st serves with slice he cant get it back in the court with interest and federer can impose his fh.

not too much new strategy from federer but he did use the bh drop shot to perfection today. this match reminds me of the mc 07 final in a few ways except the result was the opposite.

one thing is for sure: do not underestimate the value of confidence for a player like federer.

Even in 07, when he beat nadal in hamburg, he still was able to generate a million breakpoints in the rg final. So he was obviously doing something right. If he can breakthrough nadal on some of those important points and just continue to fight with his attacking game, he will have his chances.

nadal will obviously be a different beast with 6 matches under his belt on the red clay of paris but federer can hang with him.

Short interview with Swiss newspaper Blick. Basically Roger says his tactic of keeping Nadal waiting at the start of the match and electing to receive was on purpose. Basically said players allow Nadal to determine his rhythm too much.
