Rasheed is director of the event, that's why he's playing there.
But I agree it's OK for him to play an exhibition instead of a normal tournament since he often has trouble in playing a few weeks in a row.
He's doing a great job so far:

Leconte / Monfils lost to Wilander / Johansson 2-6

It's really "hit and giggle", as expected:
