From ATP's page, we can compare the 2003 stats and 2004 stats up until now. It seems Roger did better last year overall on the stats sheet, first and second serve points won, aces, almost everything is worse than last year. Didn't even make the 2nd serve points won list.

How come Roger is doing better this year but is doing worse on the stats sheet? Is it just because we haven't played the grass season? Or, does that mean stats don't mean anything?

.He also has a brain to go with his talent now.He played lest and has not play the grass season yet. He appears in most of the least contrary to many other players which meant that he is a more complete player than most.

Also, a lot more people try to beat the Number 1 player (for their own confidence) than they did the Number 4 player

well, even if he had slipped to #2, clay is over... for the most part.
i don't know why his stats aren't so good. he's prolly playing better balanced tennis and he's not relying on one thing, so he doesn't have anything that's at the top of the rankings, but he's so solid all around that he's a dominant #1.

His stats will improve if he has a succesful grass season, particularly his serving stats (last year he only lost serve at Wimbledon a handful of times)

Plus tennis is more about winning the key points rather then great stats

And what happens after 2 months?

He is now in all the serving stats except 1st serve percentage, and is leading in 2nd serve points won, service games won, and most impressively, break points saved. Saving 74% of the break points is just unbelievable.

Hmm...I thought Nadal used to be the king of BP saves. Who was ahead of Roger in the aces stats? Roddick and Karlovic?

Honestly I quite like the idea of Roger as the Serve King.

is the ace count stat purely on the number of aces or does the ranking take an average of aces per match?
