Re: Euro 2008 Group Stage Matches
Yeah, Portugal look really good. They need to drop the useless Nuno Gomes and play Ronaldo up front though with possibly Queresma coming in.
Whoever qualifies 2nd in this group will be cannon fodder for Germany in the next round. Looks pretty much a nailed on Germany vs Portugal semi final.

Thing is Portugal's bench is very good to-i'm suprised they still go with Gomes not sure about Ronaldo up front it does work and man united like him their-but he likes to make runs from midfield-gomes was pretty good tonight could of scored with that header but he hasent the legs for 90 minutes

Portugal produce countless wingers, but have never had a good striker.....since probably back in Eusebio's days.
If they had a world class striker, they would be favourites for this tournament.

Re: Euro 2008 Group Stage Matches
I thought Nuno Gomes played ok. He hit the woodwork twice and was unlucky. Cronaldo is too selfish to play as a proper lone striker. Gomes not great but he's the best option they have. Cronaldo is too selfish to play as a proper striker and playing him there negates his greatest strength which is arriving late in the box. If he's playing as a proper striker any decent central defender should be able to mark him out of it in the air especially. If he's arriving from deep with lots of moentum though it's a different story.
Very disappointed with Turkey I was under the illusion that they were a good footballing side (like their U23s ) and that Tuncay wasn't the same clown he is for Boro when playing for them.

Our last big striker was Fernando Gomes, back in the 80's.
You may also remember about Jordão, who scored the two goals of Portugal in the semi finals of Euro'82, where we lost 3-2 in overtime against France.
