Volandri has the worst serve on tour. What's the big deal about beating him?

I bet you can't understand the fact that the OP is asking for an evaluation of his game, not an evaluation of his results.

He's asking for evaluation of his game yes...but you can't say he's top 10 based on couple of matches he's played. He has potential to be top 10 or whatever, but potential meaningless (ask Gasquet if you don't believe me). You were asking "Why not?" and I was responding to you as to why Murray cannot be considered top 10 (or even top 20) clay court player at the moment. Player is judged by his results not potential or talent.

There aren't real claycourters anymore, so my point is still valid. Anyone can be a top 10 player on clay with Murray's game.

There's potential there for sure.

His problem will often come against patient clay court specialists. Although he's improved his fitness considerably, I still wouldn't fancy him in a 3 hour battle with guys like Canas. He also doesn't have enough patience to go deep in a rally, though I believe Corretja is trying to improve that.

His game is ok for clay though, he uses the angles well, is one of the best on tour at constructing points, and his movement is good enough.

He actually used to describe it as his favourite surface, he had a lot of success in the lower levels.

He covers the court well and has good anticipation which makes him a good defensive baseliner, and we know those do best on clay.I'm not surprised he said that RG is his favourite slam.

He's a pretty good claycourter imo.

As for the dropshots,he does them on every surface ,quite alot too, and that's a sign of impatience ,not lack of ideas.

That may be true (apart from Nadal), but there are plenty players with much better results on clay than Murray so they should be considered better clay court players than him.

Canas actually isn't the main criteria of comparison, he has always been better on slow HC than clay.

All the results from this era on clay mean nothing because the field is awfully weak.

He's nearly as good as Nadal

on his best form - he'd be as good as Rafa and maybe even beat him, especially over a 5 set match at Roland Garros

Canas, Robredo, Ferrer.....these sorts of players. Muzza doesn't have the patience to consistently trade 30 groundstrokes with them

Robredo is a mug, Canas has no backhand, would be great for Murray. Ferrer I agree.

He doesn't have patience nor stamina to consistently challenge those guys on clay and I'm talking about best of 3...best of 5, forget it!
