I'd like to think he rather gained some muscles than that he actually became more 'fat' - he looks very well in shape to me!

Good stuff blue swan.
I have said this before and will say again. Fit Dave is federer's greatest rival at the AO. I can't see anyone else beating an inform federer. David is now 9? So he could run into him at the 16 stage.
It would be a huge pity for federer if nadal became #1 for like a week.

Nope, 9-12 meet 5-8 in the round of 16, it wouldn't be until at least the quarters. With their history in Slams though, that's probably exactly what will happen.... I still remember my disbelief at the 2004 AO draw as every single nemesis emerged in Federer's quarter. Mind you, that had a very happy result in the end.

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.
Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?
ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

hmm. i wonder why the draw is done like that.
9-16 are hypothetically all the losers in 4th round. They should be able to play anyone of 1-8. Random?
if this was the case, might as well have 1 always 4 and 2 always play 3 in the semis.

Well the old system used to be 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, 3 vs 14 etc... and the current system retains some of the advantages of this. Of course it's possible but I suppose it isn't really plausable that places 5-12 won't be changing around a bit so the same people won't always play each other. It is a reward for a higher ranking, reach the top 12 and you won't have to face a top 4 player till the quarters. Reach the top 4 and you won't have to play a top 12 player till the quarters.

There's a thread comparing ALL the (top) players' rankings in GM.
And as you're not exactly a fan of Feds, judging from your posts so far (welcome back, R=FK! ), why don't you look there first?
