GICQUEL, Marc FRA v (2) ROBREDO, Tommy ESP

doubles

(3) CLEMENT, Arnaud FRA/MAHUT, Nicolas FRA v MARACH, Oliver AUT/MERTINAK, Michal SVK

meanwhile...

yes, odd, there must be a reason (maybe DC trial), in any case, Nico and Arnaud play Monday night on Court Central...

lol My first reaction when I looked at the doubles draw was exactly the same: ! I suppose DC is the only possible explanation but then I've got another question - why is it exactly Clement/Mahut and Llodra/Bennet' and not otherwise? Maybe because Micka was recently playing with Nico some tounament in Asia where they reached a SF if I'm not wrong, so they want to try another combination. But anyway the whole thing a bit strange.

Whatsoever, Arnaud and Nico are playing their doubles match as I'm typing and they have already won the first set and lead in the second. BTW, one of their rivals, Olivier Marach, seems to be that very tall blond blue-eyed guy who teaming-up with Kubot knocked the future Wimbledon champions out of the Australian Open earlier this year (Via, I apologize for recollecting this story). So if the French guys win this time it will a be kind of revenge.

P.S. Higherlaw, lovely avatar!

mtf is a sad place if i am the only one reporting results for arnaud clement! lol

here's the singles Benjamin Becker def. Arnaud Clement, 7-6 (7-0), 7-6 (7-3)

and from gptennislyon.com:
Quote:
if i have read correctly from the same tournament site, mika has retired from his doubles match:
Quote:
(someone please confirm this... as i might have misquoted from someone else )

Yes, Mika had to retire yesterday because of a new injury (he had already retired last week in the Andrezieux Challenger, but he said yesterday it's another injury). He was wondering if he would play in singles because he doesn't want to jeopardize Shanghai. He did play in the end, but he lost and said he won't play Bercy. His season is over in singles.

And in the little quote of Arnaud, he says Becker was better and he had a hard time "reading" his game and particularly his serve. Lyon is the only tournament where everything perfectly suits his game, but he didn't manage to be aggressive enough yesterday.

And here’s Arnaud’s reaction in L’Équipe today, he sounds very angry:

About his match: Becker was a tad better than me. I’m very disappointed.
But not as much as about the DC: there will be a meeting in RG on Monday. I don’t know who will be there exactly since half of the players will be in Bercy. They could find a better time for this. But the meeting is very important since there are many things going I don’t understand. Bîmes (Pdt of the French Federation) means he’s met 9 of the 10 best French players lately to make decisions for the DC next year. But I haven’t met him. Neither have Seb, Mika and I know another player who hasn’t. It’s strange. I don’t understand why Guy hasn’t been confirmed as captain and why Hagelauer’s job is questioned while he’s a great trainer. I’d like things to be clear. It’s stupid, we’ve wasted too much time between the last tie and the decisions for next year. A lot of BS.
(Well, he doesn’t say „BS“, but I don’t know the right word, lol. That’s not exactly what he says anyway, just for you to get the idea. It seems to bother him a lot, it could explain his average performance yesterday too, he looked in a bad mood to me.)

Here's a little bit more information on Arnaud's match and also on Mika's injury from latribune.fr
http://www.latribune.fr/info/Tennis--Gilles-Simon-retrouve-le-gout-de-la-victoire-a-Lyon-544-~-TENNIS-ATP-LYON-20071023TXT-$Db=News/News.nsf-$Channel=Sport

This is the important section of the article:

so complicated

does that mean guy's job is shaky apparently, and there may be a big overhaul in team members for next year?

just hope mika's injury will heal in time.

omg !
I didn't read anywhere that bimes wants to change the captain !!!!!!!!!!
The players won't agree with him, sure they will refuse to play if Guy leaves the team; Bimes is stupid !!!!

It's time for me to go back to tennis... i'm going to buy l'equipe

Enjoy, there is a full page about the DC today. Arnaud and Seb sound really mad.
The whole drama is a bit ridiculous because they have nobody else than Forget for the job anyway and all the players say he's the best option, so Forget will stay, I don't get the point.
It will be officially decided next week.
