Someone posted on the Tennis Week message board that she heard that there will be a rematch of the Rios-Andre exhibition match - this time in Vegas. Anyone else hear that?

Hi Lynn - thanks for the link. Andre said something along the lins of he'd like to play Marcelo in a re-match in Vegas - but nothing definite. It's all gone quiet on the Rios front.

Any Rios match would be welcome right now! Really sucks he's not been 'invited' to play on the seniors tour - yet. Johnny Mac and co should feel ashamed for blocking him. How can he be their number 1 player when he's not allowed to defend his points?

Marcelo says he hasn't had any invites for this year because it wasn't liked that he won so many events last year - and the seniors event is the idea of Mac - Mac was the most vocal in his criticism, so I guess he has put a spanner in the works. And who invited Marcelo in the first place? Mac! I'm hoping he gets a couple of invites somewhere - having been to Portugal last year, I can tell you he was so well received, and here was a real buzz about the tournament - the kids there loved him! He got precedence over Mac in the 'meet and greet' with the players - must have gone down like a led ballooon with Mac. I'll be gutted if he doesn't play Portugal!

Safin criticó a Ríos tras quedar eliminado en París
Una extraña situación protagonizó hoy el tenista ruso Marat Safin, luego de criticar de forma "gratuíta" al ex tenista nacional Marcelo Ríos.
El ruso realizó un duro análisis tras su eliminación de Roland Garros, en el que fundamentó con Ríos uno de sus dichos.
"Cuando uno tiene 27 años y se siente colina abajo en su carrera, no es cuestión de estar o no estar (en forma). Esa pregunta se debe hacer cuando uno tiene 22 y no se ha ganado un solo torneo del Grand Slam aunque se ha estado cerca, o no se ha conseguido jamás, como por ejemplo Ríos (Marcelo)", especificó Safin.
Asimismo, reiteró que no siente mayores motivaciones por seguir jugando de forma profesional, justo en un momento donde no ha conseguido grandes resultados.
"No me motiva viajar por el mundo y hacer segunda ronda, tercera ronda y a lo mejor alguna semifinal en algún lado en un torneo pequeño. No me da suficiente motivación para continuar", sentenció. |

As for Safin and his criticism, it doesn't divert from his short-comings and is rather petty and pointless of him! He should remember his 2004 quote in my tag to see what Marcelo has achieved.

John Mc Enroe v/s Marcelo Rios (Video)
Mientras el maestro anduvo robando un poco de plata en el tour de ancianos aprovecho de entretenerse y cosas buenas salieron de ahi. Una de ellas este encuentro de personalidades , de zurdas y de historia entre Rios y McEnroe. Los 17 anos de diferencia no permitieron ver un encuentro tenisticamente competitivo, pero si salieron puntazos y toda la personalidad de los 2 tenistas.
