I don´t think it will be so easy!
Gastón beat him three years ago when Soderling was only 20. He´s improved a lot, and is having a good year. An in-form Gastón should beat him, sure, but it´s a hard match for him to begin the tournament!

Gaston is first match on Centre Court tomorrow against the Toad.
The Toad can get pissed off and very frustrated, just hope Gaston is prepared to stay out there as long as necessary, but small steps are the key, he has the game, but he has to find the mental state.

Gastón is not at his best at 10 AM, but this is too important to let that sort of thing get in his way so I hope he´ll be fully awake!
Good luck, Gastón!!!

Did you just start watching tennis yesterday? Seriously, he has played many bad matches, quite a few of them this year.
Söderling isn't that bad on this surface, but whatever happened, well it's over now.

Re: Camp Nou, Carlsson, Wilander, Mantilla and Gaston all past Barcelona Champs
i'm a little bit frustrated about the result, the schedule and draw are both bad. but Gaston has to fight against it, at least a close match. i can't watch the macth, so i don't know what happened to him?? hope he can get rid of this frustrated match and resume his game soon.

People should never whine about draws, that is just a cop out and a cheap excuse. Fact is he played poorly for whatever reason and got punished for it.

Re: Camp Nou, Carlsson, Wilander, Mantilla and Gaston all past Barcelona Champs
It's no secret that Gaston isn't at his best right now. He's working hard on it. He trains hard. He's got the game. But I think that the only one who must be deeply frustrated by this situation, and for valid reasons, is Gaston.
Keep on playing & working Gaston. It's gonna pay. Keep the faith.

In my eyes this was the worst performance I´ve ever seen of him on clay and I´m following nearly every single match of gaston, especially since last year. there is a huge difference between just bad matches and a performance like today. But dont get me wrong, I´m still a fan. I just said this as an observer. And I just dont understand why gaston doesn´t fight till the bitter end and tries to take his chances in a match. He gives up too early, for instance after he has been broken in a set

So you followed him in 99 and 2000 then? He lost to Berlocq and Ramirez Hidalgo in awful fashion this year. Gaston has not been in form for a while, this is not new.
Well there are plenty of interviews in our News thread and you should read some of them closely and then there will be some insight as to the way he is.
Thing is he is not a Cañas, a Muster or Mantilla, and some things are in built and others have to be learned.
Can't just be come along for the ride, when everything is good, that is the safe and easy option, as Choupi said. No matter what anyone in here thinks, Gaston is the one who feels the worst about going on court and embarrassing himself, not us, not his coach, not his family, not his friends, they can give all the support he needs, but he is the one who has to turn it around and no one else.

Re: Camp Nou, Carlsson, Wilander, Mantilla and Gaston all past Barcelona Champs
well, before this turns into endless discussion, it was just my point of view on gaston and let´s leave it for that now. In fact I read every article about gaston´s new goals, hopes, regained confidence and whatever in this thread and I´m glad for the good news. I just wish he´d show at least something of that alleged new attitude on the court

I was thinking the same, Vale, about the time of the match. Pity.
