Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
I started watching in the 70s, but that's a little bit misleading since I haven't watched constantly all this time. I watched with my mom when I was little because she loved Bjorn Borg. And then I stopped watching when she did I guess, only start again a few years later when I happened across Andre Agassi on tv. And then I came back to it this year after having been away for a few years. I don't see myself fading away from it again as I appreciate the game itself more than I did when I was a teenager crushing on Andre.

Same thing with me, Kalli. My "tennis watching" in the eighties consisted of cheering for Andre, and cheering for anyone I thought Andre could beat later in the tournament(i.e. NOT Pete Sampras).
Once I got to the 90s, I became a little more diversified. Rafter and Guga were also favorites - unless they were playing Andre.

Oh yeah I was a one man woman back then. I loved me some Boris Becker, though. But even he had nothing on Andre. I suffer now when my favorites play each other (Safin/Baghdatis was rough, I don't even want to contemplate a potential Safin/Nadal match) but back then my love ended when Andre was across the net.

Don't I know it! I never cheered against Andre. Never once. Not when he played Rafa, not when he played Marat. Now that Andre's gone with Marat and Raf being my favorites, I have NO IDEA who I'm going to cheer for when they finally meet.
We'll have to help each other through it.

I became interested in tennis in the early 80ies

I know we also have posters who began watching before the Open Era.

Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
I first went to Wimbledon in 1997 and loved every minute of it so I started watching tennis and have been to Wimbledon every year since! although I only started following it seriously a few years later.

Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?
Started watching in the late 70 but my addiction to watch everything that involves a tennisball started only in the last decade.
Coverage of other tourny's than GS improved a lot

It's funny, and this is no slight against the thread starter, but the poll made me feel old, even though I typically feel anything but. I guess it suggests that it's assumed that nobody over the age of 45 knows how to use the internet. Maybe not too far from the truth...haha.
Anyway, I started watching tennis in the late 70's. Some good stuff back in the old days.
