I usually copy/paste from Excel directly in here, but make sure to wrap "code" tags around to make it look better, like this:

(quote to see the "code" tags)

Code:
Roger Federer	23
Pete Sampras	23
Ivan Lendl	18
Björn Borg	14
Rod Laver 11
John McEnroe	10
Jimmy Connors	9
Rafael Nadal	9
Novak Djokovic	8

1. Why is it that 2nd serves are always significantly slower than 1st serves? They're not really doing anything different the 2nd time.
2. Once a rally starts, does the server really have much of an advantage or is it equal?

Personally I am also wondering why 1st Serves for others are miles different from 2nd serves. Most have slower 2nd serves to make it a safer shot, and prevent a DF. 1st serves are for Aces/Unreturnables attempts.

1. Most players change the toss and grip to create more spin and therefore more margin on the 2nd serve.
2. My feeling is that the server has a slight advantage, maybe due to being more focused. But I don't have any stats to back that up, just a gut feeling.

Makes sense, you don't want to take as big of a chance on your 2nd serve and risk losing that point

De Bakker is playing qualy in the Santiago CH and has the ranking to be seeded no.5. He will play QRF tomorrow and the draw was just released.

My question is, if he gets to the MD, will he be seeded? Will the draw change? Thanks in advance

No. The same thing happened with Simon in Casablanca this week. He would've been seeded third if he entered directly, but now simply took a qualifier spot after getting through qualifications.

Federer, Nadal and Djokovic pander to plutocrats and charge huge appearance fees. The "trickle down effect" means that tournaments like the Heineken Open now have to pay appearance money for racketeers that many of us have never heard of. It's close to extortion.

At the end of Federer's first round match at the Australian Open a fawning interviewer asked about his kids and if he had bought coach Stefan Edberg a birthday present - no, by the way, the privilege of knocking up with 'King Roger' was enough of a present apparently.

It depends on the ability to return the ball. Solid server will often have the advantage in the rally due to either speed and placement of the first serve or the placement and topspin of the 2nd. If not by ace, in some of the "easy" points if he finishes off a short returned ball or not is up him.

And it is just hard to consistently return serves firstly because of the speed because your reaction time and focus has to be perfect. Secondly because of the nasty topspin that forces you to stand far behind the baseline in order to retrieve it, or try to get the high ball on the rise. That's why usually great returners are one of the best players in the world imo, because they combine all of these factors (athleticism, focus, reaction time, hand skills)

A little under a year now, maybe 9-10 months, if I remember correctly.

I haven't had a TennisTV subscription for almost 8 months, so I need a more precise period of time to realise if I missed it
