26-year-old Groth claimed his maiden Challenger title

He is intent on breaking into the top 100 this year and climbed 20 places to 151 in the live ATP rankings thanks to his Rimouski triumph.
Groth has a chance to improve that further when he contests another Challenger this week in Guadalajara, Mexico – starting with former world No.50 Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo, a 36-year-old Spaniard.
“I have almost got nothing to defend through to the US Open,” Groth said.
“I have a bunch of opportunities and 80 points (for winning the Rimouski Challenger) is a great stepping stone and I need 200 or so more now to get direct acceptance into the slams.”
Groth was just as chuffed to qualify at Indian Wells this month as he was to end his three-match losing streak in Challenger finals.
“It’s great to win my first (Challenger) title, but it was the first time I qualified for a bigger event,” he said of Indian Wells.
“That’s the level I want to be playing at and that’s the goal I keep working towards.”
