Next tournament: Houston so many points to defend (90) but the good news, not many points afterwards. From today's picture, looked like he was training in the park. I still think they should follow Thiem's example and haul some tree trunks (10 miles are doable if you put your mind to it).
This has been a bad stretch for Rhyne. i have to think his shoulder is partially to blame. Do you know the deal with that?
From Sarasota commentating, Mike said he still has a problem with it. Rhyne liked to go big on the 2nd serve but since the AO he rarely went for it.
I think Rhyne's biggest issue right now (other than the backhand) is confidence. Lackluster performance today, didn't mix things up enough. Maybe I'm to blame as well. I criticized his slice yesterday and he didn't utilize it that much today exposing his backhand.
Mike said that Rhyne is healthy again because he played doubles Rhyne & Smyczek lost in the quarterfinals. They were awful for the most part, very rusty. But happy to see Rhyne playing doubles again (1st doubles tournament this year). I hope they play again next week.
Rhyne survived Garanganga yesterday...had neck problem (serve issue). Thank goodness, TG was horrible yesterday (so many errors). Rhyne plays Nishioka next. The 18-yo beat Donald Young last week, has a very solid backhand so could be problematic for Rhyne.
In the post-match interview (below), Rhyne will be leaving for Germany next Thursday (Heilbronn Challenger). Then likely RG qualies and the grass season begins...
