Joćo Sousa (with Rosol) just defeated the Bryan' brothers on the QF's of ATP 250 Sidney. Huge win for this new double team, saving 2 MP's and winning by 14-12 on the match tie-breaker.

As you can see on the picture, Sousa is now sponsored by Lotto.

AO is coming and Joćo Sousa is really dangerous on 5 setter matches. Hope he can get a good draw.

I was stunned when I saw the score. Maybe the Bryan brothers didn't push too hard knowing the AO is underway. If not, this could be a good partnership for doubles.

That's why he's partnering Rosol? Because they have the same sponsor? In the picture Rosol is wearing the same outfit.

Indeed, he showed that in the US Open. Let's see how the draw goes, because he'll have little chances against a Top 10.

Hopefully this new sponsorship with Lotto means he don't have to think on money the next years, so he can be fully concentrated on tennis. That's the hardest part for a tennis player, unless you have Fed/Rafa/Nole kind of talent.

Bryan brothers usually go really well in Sidney, they won in 2012 and 2013. Are no...

No, I don't think so. He's just playing doubles to play a few more matches, like last week with Giraldo and next week in AO again with Santi

First good win This season by Joćo Sousa. Defeated that hass-hole Granollers, who was An Idiot in RG2013, both To Joćo And To the audience. Now, winnable match against Albert Ramos, And then, if he wins, a match against Nadal. Best rank ever after This week, whatever happens against Ramos.

Mmm, I don't think it's so 'winnable', Ramos is having a very good clay season so far.

Let's see if he can regain confidence and return to the Malaysia form.

Ramos will be harder than Granollers, imo. But Sousa should be confident now.

Default Re: Joćo and Pedro Sousa

With this victory yesterday against Mannarino, Joćo defended the points he had from January and February last year. Furthermore, he managed to get some more, to start compensating for last year's second part of the season. Bythe end of February, he got 63 more points than last year. Not too much, he hoped for something more, I'm sure, but still these last two tournaments were very important for his confidence. Great match against Murray. Now, he really needs to produce the goods in IW and Miami, and then through the European clay-season. Afterwards, he starts to defend a huge amount of points. Fortunately, given his current rank, I'm almost sure he already secured direct-acceptance into ATP1000 Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome, which is great! I'm sure he will also play in Barcelona ATP500, being currently his hometown, particularly if Portugal Open is cancelled.

It looks that Portugal Open 2014 will be held. Great news!!

Evenso, Joćo Sousa already said that he would play Munich if there wasn“t Portugal Open. So, I“m guessing that he could skip Barcelona... Otherwise, he would play six weeks in a row, which is too much, I think...

Or at least he will collect the money from first round at six consecutive tournaments . I really don't see him pushing it to the limit in Casablanca, Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Oeiras, Madrid and Rome in consecutive weeks. Maybe he thinks that, since he will lose in early rounds at some of this tournaments, he can have a rest before the next one. I don“t know... Any thoughts or any other info on this?

Well done Joćo. Another milestone, 1000 points for the first time (of course the first Portuguese to reach four digits). A good chance that he will be Top40 after this tournament. And he did it in style, with a massive performance against Nedovyesov (6-4, 6-1, no break points against, only lost six points on serve, two of them on first serve). Joćo showed the difference between a CH player and a solid ATP player, and that is really important.

I was stunned to read (Record newspaper) that Joćo Sousa is still waiting for some answers before he decides if he plays this year's Portugal Open!

Is he expecting appearance fee?? Risky move. No doubt he deserves one, since a lot of tickets will be sold through his name. Portuguese fans are eager to see him play, and hopefully go deep in the draw. That will mean a lot of tickets sold. Plus last year Joćo Lagos refused him a WC, since he was coming from injury, and only three weeks later, he was winning a match in RG and a CH in the following week.

But it“s a risky decision, since he needs sponsorship, that's where the big money will come from, and sponsors pursue the players with more fans. His legion of fans (his market) will be in Portugal, no doubt. So, he can get bad press if he decides not to play, and the fans will be heart-broken. Who knows what that might do to his cheering fans at FB and elsewhere?? Who knows what that might do to his sponsors contracts?

Gulbis's serve too much for Joćo Sousa yesterday. He has struggled more than once against this big-servers. The same happened against Hanescu also. He probably needs to get some practice sessions against this type of servers. But yesterday Gulbis was just impossible to play against. If he maintains this kind of serve, he will only have a decent challenge in the SF against Djokovic. Joćo will now be ranked 41st next week, most likely. New personal best, and first time over 1000 points!

Default Re: Joćo and Pedro Sousa

Joćo Sousa is now confirmed to play his home-tournament in Barcelona. So, if he plays Portugal Open (which he must, for the sake of his sponsorship deals...), he will be listed to play six tournaments in six weeks, Casablanca250, Monte Carlo1000, Barcelona500, Portugal250, Madrid1000 and Rome1000. I“m absolutely sure that he won“t skip any of the Masters, so I“m guessing he will tank some of the Masters, as long as he succeeds to go deep in the Draw of some of the previous tournaments.

This is the same kind of dilemma that a soccer coach faces, when he has a lot of good players from which to choose his squad. That“s what we call a good headache.

Go Joćo!

And Joćo Sousa is now confirmed to play at Portugal Open! He really had to, its his home-country, where he has all his fans. Anyhow, the news point out some sort of agreement between his team and Joćo Lagos. I“m guessing he has some sort of arrangement with additional prize-money per objectives, like Joćo Lagos offered the big stars in recent years, so that they would be motivated to do something more than tank first round just to collect the appearance big money.

Default Re: Joćo and Pedro Sousa

Another great victory by Joćo Sousa, three sets against Simon in Miami, after decent two-sets victory against Carreno-Busta.
3rd round in Miami now. But too much from now-on. Berdych and Isner next. But he will stop immediately at Berdych. Berdych in great form, and a huge server. Joćo hates to play against the big, tall servers, he needs to find a way to practice the return-game against this type of players, since there are a few in the circuit...
But Top40 now for sure, first time ever a Portuguese does that, and he will get direct-acceptance into all the Masters until Roland Garros. Seeding in RG is less than 150 points away, so very much possible, since he will be seeded in Casablanca and Portugal Open, with weak acceptance-lists, that make you think he can reach at least SF in both of this tournaments. Plus Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid and Rome. Not difficult to see him getting those 150 points, that“s for sure. He“s playing and training with so much confidence, that I really see Top30 coming soon! Go Joćo!
