Why Spain? Not Italy???

Serbia would not be a good draw. Djokovic is 2 sure matches for them, then Zimonjic in doubles, plus Tipsarevic in singles. They'd all be in Australia for AO anyway....

USA please.

Against Serbia, we will be play on grass. Hewitt/Guccione last year has already won, him on Wimbledon. http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/P...012&m=d&e=540#

Kazakhstan is obviously the best draw.
Argentina, USA or Canada we'd be a chance especially as they'd all be home ties.
Czech, Serbia, Spain or France would be too strong I would think. But we are capable of stepping up.

I agree on grass Lleyton and Bernard could beat Tipsarevic, and we'd be a decent shot in the doubles. But it is a long shot, we'd be massively up against it.

Very tough tie, especially away from home.

I didn't know the draw was so soon

It's actually shaping up as one of the better draws. Gasquet should be in the team, but then Tsonga has been injured - who knows where he'll be at - then it's Simon, Paire, Chardy, Monfils, Benneteau and Llodra. Who knows who'll be in there. You'd think Llodra, for doubles. Lots of depth but no real unwinnable matches tbh. What surface will they use? Clay? None of there own players are particularly good on it. Will be interesting...

You'd think they'd put it on clay but maybe they will play to their strengths and choose hardcourt. Yeah, there is no impossible matchup there for us but several tough potential match ups and they have immense depth. Anyway, it's a long way away and you can't tell who will be in form now. A lot will depend on the AO and who pulls up well and is playing at a high level...

Default Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

I wasn't sure where to post this, but wanted to share some stats I have just looked up.
It is very interesting our top three are set to finish the year almost with identical rankings. I think this is good come Australian summer in that the spotlight will be shared rather than all on one. Also very healthy for Davis Cup.

52) Bernard Tomic
53) Lleyton Hewitt
54) Marinko Matosevic (Poor Marinko always seems to come in behind the other 2).

All three are playing this week so things may move around.

I have also gone thru each of their results this year and recorded all their top 50 wins.

Tomic:
- 9 - Richard Gasquet
- 19 - Sam Querrey
- 23 - Andreas Seppi
- 28 - Florian Mayer
- 28 - Martin Klizan
- 36 - Kevin Anderson
- 38 - Thomaz Bellucci
- 44 - Jarkko Nieminen
- 46 - Denis Istomin
- 49 - Marinko Matosevic

Hewitt:
- 6 - Juan Martin Del Potro
- 8 - Juan Martin Del Potro
- 10 - Stanislas Wawrinka
- 12 - Tommy Haas
- 15 - John Isner
- 19 - John Isner
- 19 - Sam Querrey
- 28 - Grigor Dimitrov
- 36 - Ivan Dodig
- 43 - Denis Istomin

Matosevic:
- 12 - Tommy Haas
- 13 - Milos Raonic
- 14 - Juan Monaco
- 21 - Sam Querrey
- 23 - Alexandr Dolgopolov
- 27 - Benoit Paire
- 31 - Fernando Verdasco
- 32 - Julien Benneteau
- 42 - Nikolay Davydenko

If you take out Sydney and Wimbledon, Tomic only has 3 or 4 wins. Very unimpressive year if you disect it that way. Lleyton has some really amazing wins on his list. And Marinko is impressive with some wins there. However all massively struggle with inconsistency this year and I think at the start of the year we would have wished for a much better ranking for Tomic and Hewitt at this time.

At least each seem to have had a healthy year for the most part, and played a good schedule. It's great that Hewitt has committed to a full season 2014 and we're all looking forward to improvement again on this year from all 3. Hopefully they can be joined in the top 100 by Kyrgios and/or Ebden and/or Duckworth.

Default Re: The Everything Davis Cup Thread (News, Articles, Live Scores)

Hewitt just announced the squad for the DC R1 tie against France on air:

Hewitt
Tomic
Guccione
Kyrgios
Kokkinakis
Thompson

I don't see what Guccione does to earn his spot when Matosevic and Ebden can't even make the team! Don't even talk about doubles because they didn't even play together when they had the chance at the Aus Open where Hewitt and Guccione both played but with different partners! He's there because he's Hewitt's mate and that is it! Ridiculous.

Thompson has never played an ATP MD match. He had R1 against Janowicz at AO and played well but let's not trip here; Janowicz was dismal and hitting drop shots on every third point in those first two sets. I don't understand this one most of all!

Matosevic makes QFs in Sydney and Brisbane, and took Nishikori to 5 sets @ AO. He's almost TOP 50 and ranked above Tomic yet can't make the squad; when Guccione (517), Kokkinakis (570), Kyrgios (183) and Thompson (319) make the squad. Ebden also won as many matches and Kokk and Kyrgios at AO!

Kyrgios is fair enough IMO, but the others

Matosevic also Lleyton's mate. Hewitt/Rafter will play double's match
