Yes - his draw is pretty good, all things considered. In the same quarter as Ferrer again.

Stan's looks tougher. (Djokovic's quarter) I hope Richard can do well in Beijing because he won't be seeded 8 for Shanghai, and I don't feel so confident about the draw he'll get because of that.

I meant to say... I wish you'd seen him yesterday against Youzhny. He was good today, but he was even better and more aggressive yesterday - and so, so solid at the crucial points.

I hope some highlights of that match appear on youtube so you can see it.

I haven't seen Richard's match and I'm not sure I can do two close losses (poor Gilles!) in a day. I hope Julien wins tomorrow and gets his title - he deserves one.

The one positive - besides Richie's higher level - is that he can be rested for Beijing which has more points on offer. his draw isn't bad; could definitely have been worse.

I did not get to see it but seems like it was a close , well played match. And I am willing to concede Bangkok , so Richard will be rested and with good match prep for Beijing and Shanghai.
And very happy for Julien ! Helping out his buddy by beating Stan - and hopefully he will win his first title tomorrow .

I was so so sad, when I saw the result, Raonic for me doesn't play tennis ....
I haven't seen the game but yesterday Richard played so amazing . I hope he can improve his form ( if it's needed ) and the
result will not bother him .

I couldn't watch today's match as well but it was a tight one reading from the comments here and GM. It's a shame Richard got broken at the end of each sets when serving to stay in them!!

ALLEZ in Beijing, not a a bad draw could have been worse!! All the best!!

Hi all

I haven't been able to follow tennis at all this week. Nice to see him pull out the Youzhny win, especially after reading the comments here. Really disappointed with the Raonic loss. Oh, well. Will catch the highlights when I get time.

Probably won't be able to catch Beijing either. The field there is way too good. @DBR: Yeah, Stan has a tougher draw than Richie, but he too has tough initial rounds. Flo Mayer->Tomic->Benny/Ferrer. Doing at least one round better than Stan is really important here.

Regarding the WTF, If Raonic wins today, it will give him an outside chance to qualify. Tsonga is, of course, the biggest threat, but Tsonga losing in the final last week and Richie reaching the SF has given him a small lead of 210 points, which doesn't sound like much, but is good enough considering he is just 155 points behind Stan(in the race).

Allez!

Just saw that Tsonga is playing Tokyo. Ridiculously easy field compared to Beijing. After a tough first round against Monfils, Tsonga has an easy path to the final. If Raonic manages to stop Tsonga, it could mean Raonic could get into the WTF picture(especially if he beats Berdych). This does not look good.

I hope we get a Richie/Tomic R2. We need revenge.

Ok, another post.

Just read this in the GM thread:

In set 2 he made 6 points on Gasquet serve (one break!) and in set 3 he made 7 points on Gasquet serve (one break!)

I can't remember anyone made two breaks in two sets with only 13 points on opponent's serve.

This is only 5 points beside those two breaks in 9 service games of Gasquet.

Hi Pratik. yes, Flo is not straightforward, but Haas got Hewitt, so Richard did ok I think, considering the strength of the field and his current form. I think he would be up for another crack at Tomic after Wimbledon. Youzhny is in good form too and could trouble Stan. Hoping that Pospisil has a real go at Ferrer also. Very tough loss for Benny today, I think he might be a little tired/ flat next week.

Not sure what shape Gael's in, it's been so long since he played, but I would think he'd really fancy this match against Tsonga. A shame for them both they drew each other so early really. Hoping that Raonic will run out of steam at some point. Can't wrap my brain around him making WTF at all.

Richard's serving stats v Raonic:

Set 1: 83% 1st serve in, won 84% of those, plus 100% 2nd serves

Set 2: 69% 1st serve in, won 78% of those, plus 75% 2nd serves

Set 3: 79% 1st serve in, won 74% of those, plus 60% of 2nd serves.

Overall - 77% 1st serve in, won 79% of those, plus 76% of 2nd serves.

It's just so frustrating that he lost. Richard served well and held very comfortably throughout the whole match apart from those two games. He was a bit passive in them, and Raonic was more aggressive and took his chances.

I still can't over the result though. Somewhere in a parallel universe, Richard and Gilles played the Bangkok final today...

That wraps up quite a bad weekend for you, results wise.
Supporting Richie, Gilles and Julien. I guess you must be French!

Considering his and Ferrer's form, I think he should reach the SF next week.

Tsonga has quite a good record against Monfils, plus Jo is in quite good form. I don't see anyone stopping him before the Final. Raonic probably won't back his result up, but if he somehow managed to do it, he will become a real thread for WTF.

I have been saying time and time again for almost a year now that Richard has improved mentally. Then something like this happens. Leaves me lost for words.

I agree with Puschkin and T.C though. This was just a 250, and we have (lot of) more important tournaments coming up. Helps reduce the effect of this loss. But why is he playing so much? Why not drop Moscow? 6 continuous weeks is just ridiculous. And in those 6 weeks, you have two 1000's and two packed 500's. It's absurd. 7 weeks if he qualifies for WTF. If he plays 6 weeks straight and then WTF, the things I feared would happen will actually happen.

Away from our 'Richard Gasquet Message Board', in a parallel universe referred to by only two letters:
