Picked up the win 6-4, 6-3. Plays Istomin in the first round.

Great to see Groth qualify. Istomin is in form at the moment but if Groth's serve is on, it is ON... 7-6, 7-6 hopefully

Groth hangs tough and does it in three sets after losing the opening tie-break 8-6 to Wild Card Dennis Novikov (ATP626), comes storming back to take the next two sets 62 62.

Groth's big guns tamed as he goes down to ex-wunderkid Donald Young (ATP142) 36 16 at Napa.

Groth through to second round in Sacramento, outgunning Denys Molchanov (ATP 236) 63 62. There were breaks aplenty in the first set, big Sam losing his serve twice in the first set but breaking Molchanov three times, then in the second set saving two break points whilst breaking Molchanov twice.
Keep going Sam.

Groth and Gooch (No.1 seeds) bundled out of dubs in Sacramento by Ball/Molchanov 67(5) 75 6-10.
Ouch - won't like that...

Anyone else watching this? Groth is blowing a fuse after the umpire over ruled and called his forehand down the line out at 6-7 in the breaker.

Sam had been down 3-6* and pulled it back to 6-6 before double faulting. I initially thought his forehand down the line at 6-7 was out but the call didn't come, until the umpire called out a second or two later, just after Polansky had returned the shot.

Pumped up Groth takes the second on a breaker, 9-7. We're going the distance!

Groth goes a break up in the third, then Polansky pulls it bakc to get to 3-4 on serve, then Groth powers away to win the set 6-3 and a hotly contested match 67,76,63.
Up against No.2 seed Tim Smyczek (ATP100) in QF round next.
Go big Sam.

Sam takes a set off Smyczek but can't go all the way, losing 67(8) 64 16.
Pity about that tie-break, could have been the difference.

Sam had quite a few set points in the first set. At one point my score board said Sam won the first set 6/4, but then changed back to Deuce and he then went on to lose. Don't u hate that!?
