incredible run down the stretch from phil and a well-deserved claret jug

westwood couldn't handle the pressure and squandered a golden opportunity for his 1st major.

woods without a major in over five years....good for the sport, good for humanity.

Hunter Mahan has a two shot lead on day three of the Canadian Open. But his wife just went into labour. So he quit.
May give new meaning to the term million dollar baby.

PGA championship is in full swing. As so often happens nowadays, Woods won the last tournament before a major, was quickly declared overwhelming favourite, and then disappoints. He's T41 atm at +2, after having almost finished his 3rd round. Lefty has disappointed even more, languishing in 73rd on +8. Title holder McIlroy is not doing to well either, at -1 in T26th. Not that being title holder counts for much. The last one to win a major was Padraig Harrington all the way back in the 2008 Open.

In the lead after two days: Dufner -9. Scott, Kuchar and Fyruk has -7. Rose and Stenson is Europe's biggest hopes atm, on -6. Garrigues and Stricker rounds out the top at -5. None of these have started the 3rd yet. Noone fairly close to the lead has made a move yet. So who's the favourite? Scott and Rose are trying to be the first to win two majors in the same year since - again - Harrington in 2008, but I think it's more likely we'll see yet another first-time winner. Perhaps Stenson can take Sweden's very first PGA MAjor title?

Dufner is a huge choker, so I'm still leaning towards Scott and Rose for this one.

Oak Hill is an interesting course though, very un-PGA like in my opinion. Most of the courses for the final major of the year are long and forgiving in the rough, but this one is more geared towards accurate hitters who can hit the majority of the fairways and stay out of trouble. That's why I fancy Scott and Rose.

Great to see Dufner winning the US PGA. Two years ago when he lost the playoff, my fear was that he'd be a one-week wonder as he was already 34 and without a win on tour. Well, he's taken wins on the PGA Tour after that and now won his 1st major. Congrats to him!

I'm so happy for him, already the 2011 US PGA was winnable for him, great to see him winning a major now.

So another season with three first-time slam winners. One would think the field would soon be saturated enough with them to see more repeat action, but obviously not. And still no title for Westwood, Garcia or Donald....

Most boring final round of a major maybe in awhile, Dufner had a slim lead going in, that usually means at least 1 lead change, but it wasn't to be, the leaders stayed the leaders, Day started out well, then faded badly.

Gotta bump this thread. Henrik Stenson had a great season. He was 2nd at the British Open and 3rd at the US PGA. After that he took two wins in the PGA Tour to win the FedEx Cup. Last weekend he won the final European Tour event in Dubai, to finish as #1 in the Race to Dubai ranking.

Yes, great season for Stenson. First to win the FedEx cup and the Race to Dubai in the same season. Definitely player of the year.

I don't think any player is an obvious player of the year. As a Lefty fan, I may be a bit biased but Mickelson had a great summer. Was the runner-up at the US Open and won the British Open. Also, he was the first British Open champ who's won the European Tour's Scottish Open in the previous weekend. I've sometimes heard that the best way to lose a major is to win in the previous weekend. That wasn't the case with Phil. He played excellent golf in June and July. On the other hand, those two were his only wins this year.

And Tiger was the #1 in the PGA Tour money ranking but didn't win a major. And I think the money ranking shows better than the FedEx Cup who had the best season overall. FedEx Cup is definitely hard to win, I'd say even harder than a major as you need to be among those 30 who qualify. But then it's very much about that final event, usually the winner of it wins the FedEx Cup, and that's why doesn't reflect so well who had the best season.

So hard to say whose season was best, Lefty won a major, Stenson won both tours' season-long competitions, and Tiger won most events and earned most prize money. Maybe I'd say Stenson had the best season, good results in big events and Tour titles. Lefty's peak was only six weeks, and Tiger couldn't win anything very big.

An smoking round of 66 put Miguel Angel Jimenez only two shots from leading Spieth and Watson. I'd love the Cigar Man finally winning a major.
