Go Jipper - Plays Ante Pavic next, who knocked off the No.1 seed ( 1 set all, Bemelmans ret.inj.).
JP can win this match and qualify.

Massive drop in the rankings by 110 places or something
He won't get into US Open qualies by the look of it.

Smithy - has just had a big drop in ranking, out of the top 300, due to not defending his win in Winnetka Challenger last year.

Has only won 74 pts this year, but only has 41 to defend the rest of the year. With no pts to defen before US OPen cut-off still needs a few good tournaments to make the US Open qualies draw.

Fail, unfortunately, compared to last year, so far.

Watched JP play Kudla in Brisbane qualies and was fortunate enough to have Tony Roche sit next to me for all of 30 seconds! Asked him what he thought of JP's game and he said, "second serves a bit short aye..."

Pretty much sums it up. JP is capable of good result but don't think he has the size or serve to take him to the top level.

I'm going a fail but only just on the basis of disappointing results at the Challenger level

JP gets up over fellow Oz Jones in a close match 6-2, 6-7(8), 6-4.
Tough to play a mate that you've known for so long... but someone had to win...

Smithy on a roller coaster ride, going down in the first round singles in Lexington.

His doubles are going well, but not following it up with consistent results in the singles. He wil miss out on singles qualies at the US Open (assuming cut for the Open goes on next week's ranking).

John lost to the number 2 seed Donskoy in the first round of Aptos 6-3 2-6 7-6(4). Good effort to get a seat and take it to a third set tiebreak against a top 100 player.

JP Smith not playing a Futures this week?
How'd he go?

Playing in Canada F6 $15k Futures, JP is into the final with a 61 62 win over England's Ed Corrie.

Seeded No. 2, Jipper plays No.7 seed Ante Pavic (ATP 371)from Croatia in final, who beat the No.1 seed Filip Canadian Peliwo along the way

Hehe - Jipper sneaks a Futures title and valuable points whilst attention is focussed on US Open qualifying.
The 24-year-old, currently ranked No.304, defeated seventh seed Ante Pavic of Croatia in the final, 3-6 6-4 6-3.
Nice going JP...
