Didn't get a chance to do a preview yesterday, but in the end there are 6 debutantes in New York:

Maxime Authom
Hiroki Moriya
Guido Andreozzi
Denis Novikov (WC)
Guido Pella
Rhyne Williams

By my count, five men lost in final round qualies, who could have made debuts.

Daniel Kosakowski
Yannick Mertens
Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol
Marius Copil
Tsung-Hua Yang

Default Re: Grand Slam Debutantes.

Was out of town for the start of AO:

There were 9 debutants in Melbourne, similar to last year. This is higher than any of the other slams, in part due to the number of debutant wild cards. In the last 12 GS events, 11 wild cards made debuts. 7 of these were at AO, including 4 this year.

One was the debut for Wu Di of China, the first man from China to play in a GS MD. The last country to make a GS debut is Estonia, with Jurgen Zopp at the 2012 AO.

Just two debutant qualifiers is the lowest since AO 2011.

Yeah, for some reason he is not on the RG entry list in the forums here, which has that going to Millman. I will correct it.

Hi, I want to say that this is a grea thread Great job by your part

I am working in some stats and I need to know all the players that sometime made a GS Main Draw and in the way I found a mistake in this thread

In Roland Garros 1968 you forgot Ken Rosewall(The Champions) and you put him in Wimbledon 1968.

And you have the same debuts for Wimbledon 1978 & Wimbledon 1979. In 1979 the debuts were

Alejandro CORTES* (COL)
Fritz BUEHNING* (USA)
Haroon ISMAIL* (ZIM)
John AUSTIN* (USA)
John FITZGERALD* (AUS)
Rick MEYER* (USA)
Rohun BEVEN* (GBR)

Thanks for the fixes

Missing Rosewall at RG was a glitch in my spreadsheet and the duplication of 78 Wimbledon was a mess-up in my copy-paste

Default Re: Grand Slam Debutantes.

There are six certain debutantes at this year's AO:

Thanasi Kokkinakis - AUS (WC)
Jordan Thompson - AUS (WC)

The last Australian player to debut at a GS: Matt Reid, 2013 Wimb

Alejandro Gonzalez - COL (DE)
The last Colombian player to debut at a GS: Robert Farah, 2011 USO

Alexander Nedovyesov - KAZ (DE)
The last Kazakh player to debut at a GS: Mikhail Kukushkin, 2010 USO

In addition, there are two more guaranteed debutants, as two qualification matchups pit potential debutants against each other:

Dusan Lajovic - SRB vs. Tsung-Hua Yang - TPE

Both are 0-1 in previous GS QR3
The last Serbian player to debut at a GS: Filip Krajinovic, 2012 RG
The last Taiwanese player to debut at a GS: Jimmy Wang & Yen-Hsun Lu, 2004 Wimb

Blaz Rola - SLO vs. Pierre-Hugues Herbert - FRA

The last Slovenian player to debut at a GS: Aljaz Bedene, 2013 AO
The last French player to debut at a GS: Albano Olivetti, 2013 USO

Seven other players will play for debuts:

Damir Dzumhur - BIH vs. Bemelmans

Would be the first Bosnian player (Delic was an American when he debuted)

Dominic Thiem - AUT vs. Klizan

The last Austrian player to debut at a GS: Andreas Haider-Maurer, 2010 USO

Yuichi Sugita - JPN vs. Guez

Sugita is 0-3 in GS QR3
The last Japanese player to debut at a GS: Hiroki Moriya, 2012 USO

Ze Zhang - CHN vs. Marchenko

The last Chinese player to debut at a GS: Di Wu, 2013 AO

Taro Daniel - JPN vs. Bellucci

Marton Fucsovics - HUN vs. Millot

The last Hungarian player to debut at a GS: Attila Savolt, 2000 RG

Daniel Kosakowski - USA vs. Wang

Kosakowski is 0-1 in GS QR3
The last American player to debut at a GS: Collin Altamirano, 2013 USO

Lucky loser spots could potentially get players in as well, with Lajovic best placed to get a debut that way.

So, debuts for:

Thanasi Kokkinakis - AUS (WC)
Jordan Thompson - AUS (WC)
Alejandro Gonzalez - COL (DE)
Alexander Nedovyesov - KAZ (DE)
Dusan Lajovic - SRB (Q)
Blaz Rola - SLO (Q)
Damir Dzumhur - BIH (Q)
Dominic Thiem - AUT (Q)
Ze Zhang - CHN (Q)

Nine debutants is the most since the 2012 AO, when ten players debuted.

Yuichi Sugita now goes to 0-4 in GS QR3, and this was his third time being one set away from making a MD.
