Default Wawrinka is very frustrating to watch

He really should have whopped Hewitt in straigts, but he plays like a zombie out there, no fire, no passion. Hewitt wanted it so much more, simple as that. This match came down to who wanted it more. Stan almost always plays with no emotion, he just plays tennis. He has the talent but not that extra hunger and ruthlessness that all the top champions have.

Wawrinka fans suffered again today, yet another loss in what was a very winnable match.

Credit to Hewitt though, he's so very scrappy and feisty. Unfortunately those are qualies Wawrinka lacks.

lapdogs aren't meant to be scrappy or feisty

they get treats and presents just for playing tennis

when it doesn't matter if you win or lose, why try?

Hewitt is the better grass courter, and that's why he won. He is a two-time Slam champion for a reason.

Stan's been better lately - Magnus Norman is a hell of a coach . He has improved, but of course there have to be times when the old Stan shows up now and then . Hopefully just a blip.

Many a player looks as if they aren't enjoying playing tennis, but none more so than Stan the man. Not only did he look defeated mid-way through the 2nd set, but he looked downright despondent. As the OP said, he looks as if he lacks the desire needed to be a consistant top 10 player.

Stan has tons of fans on this forum because he is Roger's right hand man and his close friend.

Obviously Fundamentalist Federer fans are going to root for their No. 2.

Come on.

Wawrinka's workmanlike, a bit like Ferrer. They both max out their potential but have clear limitations to their games and can look quite bad when they go up against someone who exposes those weaknesses. And I'd say Wawrinka's less frustrating to watch than someone who under-performs like Gasquet, but I do find his game somewhat boring and ugly for an all-courter.

'Should have whopped Hewitt in straights'?

You obviously don't know Wawrinka, don't know Hewitt, and did not watch the match.

Even well past his peak, Lleyton is capable of producing some amazing grass court tennis (Remember that QF in 2009? Halle in 2010?). Don't you forget that people.

Ok. Your opinion doesn't need a separate thread, there's already one on the match.

What? He is the complete opposite of Ferrer. Ferrer has excellent movement and attitude but fairly unexceptional and consistent serve and groundstrokes. Wawrinka has average movement and sometimes poor attitude but flashy and inconsistent serve and groundstrokes.

I like both players but I'd say Lleyton is the better grasscourt player for sure. He has a rapid rhythm which suits grass very well. Stan prefer slower surfaces on which he gets more time to prepare for a shot. That's the difference and you can easily see that grasscourt favors Lleyton.

He did look a little resigned to his fate by the 3rd set yesterday. Shame as I'd have liked it to go to a 4th. Lleyton is just the better mover on grass though
