Paul-Henri Mathieu defeated the likes of Carlos Berlocq in three sets 7-5 2-6 6-3.
After losing his serve in the opener, Mathieu managed to break back being down 3-5. He proceeded to win the next three games and capture set 1. At the start of the second, Mathieu got very aggravated by the attitude of his opponent who requested a toilet break only at the end of the 2 minutes rest in between sets. Down 0-4, Mathieu conceded set 2.
The third set began and was quickly interrupted by rain. An hour and fifteen minutes later, both players came back on court to resume play. Mathieu had regained his focus and broke Berlocq at three all. He won the next two games to close it out.
In the quarterfinals, Mathieu will face Albert Montanes and will have a real chance to reach the final four.
