He proved he isn't entirely useless on clay in 2011, so why not regain that clay form and build on it a bit

Can't see him winning the French Open but a masters doesn't seem out of the question some day.

As for Murray's clay chances?

Very low, but people saying he will never win a clay title are pretty ridiculous, and probably hating rather than using logic. What Andy needs is a good draw for and confidence in himself on the surface for him to win a title, and that's not impossible. Lendl should help but I'm not sure.

He just needs a good draw, it wouldn't be solely of his own doing.

He can win a title, but most likely it will be a 250 event.

With a kind draw he could make another SF at Roland Garros - that'd be the best I'd expect from him on clay. I don't see him ever winning a best of 3 sets clay tournament to be honest .

Eek! If such a thing existed he'd have even worse results on clay...

Murray needs its to be a super tiebreaker or maybe best of one point to have success on clay

Lneders: One thing people need to understand about this so-called weak era is that it was 'weak' for Federer on HC and grass and for Nadal on clay (Federer on clay too Nadal apart) because they were so much better than anyone else, for any outsider the era couldn't possibly be any harder, during 5+ years you had to either beat the best grass/HC player ever or the best clay player ever in every single Slam just to get 1 Slam title.

he'd need a few Masters semis or more and a good run in Paris...something within his reach definitely

Sampras' points total would not be enough to be #1 now. Most of the time he was #1, he had less points than Murray in 3rd have presently (adjusted to the same scale).

Sampras won Rome, Murray doesn't have a final on clay yet. Not to mention that Sampras wasn't good on clay but he was ridiculously dominant on grass and to a lesser extent HC.

Are you suggesting Murray's career is like Sampras'?

I think Murray should play some smaller clay events such as Munich.

Default Will Andy "Clayray" Murray ever reach a clay final?

Everybody knows Murray v2.0 OBE has tanked in Monte Carlo to lull every player into false sense of security. Question is, when will the Great Scot choose to reveal his new found clay prowess? I say he will announce himself as THE new clay superpower by winning Madrid and Roland Garros this year. Only Del Goatro with synthetic wrists can hope to stop him

Depends on what kind of clusterfuck the RG draw will bring.
