top-2 now guaranteed until the end of Miami thanks to Murray's loss : now 415 weeks

Also Murray needs to win Miami to take it from him after Miami.

And if Murray doesn't win Miami, he will probably need to play the final in Monte-Carlo or play great in MonteCarlo+Barcelona (he's not even entered them yet) to take the number 2 seed in Madrid and Roma (it's better for Roger to be number2-seed to avoid Djokovic in semis and rather have Ferrer or another player -if it's not Nadal - )

Looks like Fed has clinched 418 weeks in the top 2, thanks to Murray. Question for Litotes and Duong - how sure are we about Lendl having achieved 420 weeks? Or was it 409 weeks?

We are not sure at all about Lendl having achieved either 409 or 420 weeks, there is uncertainly about his ranking from the early 80s. I have gone over old ranking lists as best possible (they are not readily accessible) and I have to say I think 420 is really, really unlikely. I am 99% sure Federer has taken this record already, even before regaining #2 next week. But I hope to find better statistics soon so we can get definite numbers.

As for securing 418 weeks that is premature to say now, Murray might conceivably take a WC to Barcelona after playing less than he hoped in MC.

Thanks for all your great work on this as well as thanks to Duong for giving such intelligent commentary

After Wimbledon Federer will have spent exactly ten straight years ranked in the top-4. Well, ten years and one day to be precise.

After almost exactly ten years (ten years and two days, to be precise), Federer's streak in the top-4 ends. Now he must try to protect his top-5 streak.

Indeed he must. And preferably get back to No. 4 if he can, although I don't see that being easy.

I know we are in mourning here, but I saw this tweet a couple days ago
A big to Roger , thanks a lot!

The news isn't @rogerfederer has fallen to No. 5 player for the first time in 10 years but that he's been top 5 for 10 years #GOAT

As far as the rankings go now, considering what Nadal and Ferrer are defending the rest of the season, getting #4 is more realistic next year, is that right?

He has been top-5 since February 17th 2003, not a bad effort

Catching Nadal looks unlikely considering he's got nothing to defend. Ferrer, on the other hand, defends some good results from last year. Better to look at the race. Fed is 1925 points behind Ferrer for points taken in 2013. So he needs to be ca. 2000 better than Ferrer for the rest of the season. Not impossible, he's had good season finishes before. We just have to hope he has another one this year.

Two advancements for Roger today. He passes Becker for most weeks in the top-10, moving into 5th all time. And he passes Sampras for most consecutive weeks in the top-10, moving into 3rd all time.

On Monday, Roger will finally catch Sampras for most total weeks in the top-10, moving into 4th position all time I did an early update with this milestone in mind.
