Sad to hear about that. He was widely respected.

Tennis has no blood passport system, and does basically no out of competition testing.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).

death is usually an unfortunate affair and this is sad considering he wasn't THAT old
but he lived a good life
few critics have his success
although Honestly (shhhh) I thought that he lost his edge as the years passed, half the time criticizing perfectly good films and praising trainwrecks. think in older age he wanted attention

One of the few art critics who I seemed to be finely attuned to. I'd luv to do what he did full time.

I have read his articles for years. I didn't always agree with him but all other opionios used Ebert as a measure. He was the yardstick in film critics.

His last review, of Terrence Malick's "To the Wonder":

I will dearly miss his excellent writing.
