Going through this thread makes me sad. Many (perhaps most) of its regular contributors are gone or inactive.

Maybe there are still enough interested posters to keep it alive and running?

In any case, last week, like every year, I had the pleasure of attending a live performance of one of the greatest works ever composed by the greatest composer of all time.

This is "Erbarme Dich" from the St Matthew Passion by J.S. Bach. Performed by the Choir and Orchestra of the Collegium Chorale Ghent under Philippe Herreweghe. The alto is a male (the excellent Damien Guillon), which is not commonly seen.

My musical fancies are usually expressed in the "What song...?" thread. I forgot this thread existed, even though I have a faint memory of contributing to it.

Upon watching Ari Folman's beautiful and disturbing poetic masterpiece "Vals Im Bashir" (2008) I initially didn't understand why I kept having flashbacks to another fave of mine - Robert Bresson's equally beautiful and disturbing poetic masterpiece "Au Hasard Balthazar" (1966) - as the two movies aren't even remotely similar beyond both being great works of art. The confusion didn't last for a minute. Both movies use this piece to amazing effect, albeit in different ways.

The soundtrack for GM

I get the goose pimples every time, hair stands up, and experience sublime emotional terror which I cannot understand, a mystery better left unexplained, being beyond the limits of language (and thank goodness for that!). The power of music and art.

The methods and drugs used by Armstrong in 1999 would work in tennis right now, with zero chance of being caught (not slightly surprising to anyone familiar with the topic, btw).
