The courts around 2000-2002 were pretty good. Wimbledon wasn't dominated by servebots, but serve and volley was still a viable strategy and dirtballers still found it a struggle. Australian Open hadn't moved to Plexiclay. A lot of the HC tournements were quicker than they are now.

How I would fix tennis:

- Shorten the US spring hardcourts, and put them on similar surfaces to the summer HCs
- Bring forward the clay season a few weeks
- Have a longer grass court season between FO and SW19, including a grass Masters
- Bring back early 2000s surfaces and balls

The Grand Slams should lead the way. Let's face it, the Brits, Aussies and Americans have always had a fast court culture. Especially the US tennis officials should do something to help their players and their styles. It would obviously take years before there would be huge results to be seen, but they should react. Just speed up the Slams and the players can whine all they want about the conditions. If it's too fast for some of them, they can boycott if they want or whatever.

By the way, I've never understood why the Aus Open has been played on slow HC? It has never suited their own players.

are you crazy???

The ATP did this with the courts because money man!!!

when federer was winning all , the people loved the matches beetwen fed and rafa , but they wanted this in all the courts and not only in clay , so the ATP started to slown down more and more the surfaces like the rebound ace , the rolls of grass in wimbledon since 2007 , the us open more slow and even the masters cup in london it`s a shit in comparassion with houston and shangai.

and the atp was more happy with the rises of nole and andy too , this courts always have the same 4 guys in the semis , because the people put his money and wants see matches beetwen this top-4 , and with this slow courts are always possible , the chances of surprises are very very smalls.

IN the 90s the money was the fasters courts with sampras and agassi , and now are this courts.

Mugs.
At's all about money dude. The don't care about players or styles. They wouldn't mind making it even slower for a longer match.

I'm afraid there's no return from the homogenized surfaces. If you come up with anything faster at GS/M1000 level, top players (consisting mainly of slow surface specialists) would complain about too different surfaces. And I guess ATP wants all surfaces play the same so that same players do well on every surface. But hopefully they'd understand that eggathons of 6 hours in Bo5/4 hours in Bo3 aren't anymore good for the players and are already too long for TV viewers. Even if they keep the surfaces homogenized, hopefully they'd at least have fasters surfaces, leading to shorter matches and favouring equally defensive and offensive playing.

There's a point an egg is just not enough, and then you'd have to take 6 months off to recover.

I'd say 1st week is solid, but no where near good as it used to be. Even solid, 1st week I think Cincy and Canada are faster. So go figure, HC faster than grass. Unacceptable.

2nd week is clay event.

Default Re: "Speed up the courts and general court speed Thread"

This goes back to what Fed always says - there needs to be variety. Some fast, some slow, some medium. Right now it's almost all slow with a few exceptions.

Also, the ATP slowed the courts down to make it more attractive to viewing audiences and to create drama, but I really don't think that's working. If anything, it's become too long to see 3+ hour Bo3 and 5+ hour Bo5 matches and coverage that long doesn't bode well for TV. And we know they slowed the courts down to give the top guys an advantage which is why in the last 4 years Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, and Murray have had a stranglehold on the Slams - because they are the 4 fittest on tour and can handle and outlast all their challengers - and then we can see more matches between those 4.
