Do you think Britain needs a bunch of Maths and Science bots?
Mathematics isn't merely about numbers, nor should it be ignored at its more complicated standard because it contains tricky concepts.

I'll say two things. Firstly, mathematics is a science, it forms an integral part of the basis of our society. None of the engineering we do, the scientific innovation, the research, the administration etc. would be possible if it weren't for mathematics. If you are truly proposing we give students the option NOT to study this essential subject, then I don't know what to say except that mathematics is behind pretty much everything, contrary to what you may think.

Secondly, it's also an acid test more than anything else. If you can succeed at GCSE mathematics, then kudos. Giving people the option to try and sneak around it would be wrong. They might as well not go to school at all.

And I'm not sure it's the best way, but it's certainly not a bad way either. I'm building up a portfolio with things and the University can help students on the course get vital work experience. But still, I'm not getting ahead of myself here, and I realize that even with this degree I'll have to work my way up.
Why? Because in getting their degree (in English, History or any other decent course for that matter), they've shown that they are capable of doing the work. They probably would have had a taxing three years studying, developing all the skills they would need to succeed. I mean how long would it take to teach anyone how to do a job in that industry? Not particularly long, I don't think. So the main thing should be showing that you are talented and capable, rather than willing to study that subject in an 'academic' sense.

Just my thoughts.

I guess you're right, I wasn't looking that deeply into things, but Maths is every where I suppose, even though I despise it .

Valid point, good to hear a well balanced perspective from someone on this kind of thing. I've had people say Media etc are joke courses before, but not ever backed up their opinion, or defended their opinion, just been arrogant and cocky towards those studying the subject. I do think your right about there being a better way into the Media Industry, if there was a work based course kind of thing, which offered employment from leaving School, it would save quite a lot on government resources funding these kind of things.

There's a big myth surrounding degree's on the whole IMO. Apparently getting a 2:1 means you've worked hard - excuse me? People go to Uni for 10 hours a week, how is that hard work?

There are certainly tough degree's, don't get me wrong, but there are so many which are a waste of people's time. What makes me laugh is people who leave Uni with a degree in Sociology then bemoan the fact they can't get a job.

I see so many people who I think waste time and money when they could go out to work, earn a good living and get themselves on a career path.

If it wasn't for the fact I enjoy my degree course and pick up some valuable skills too, I'd probably one of those people. I think my degree is pretty easy, but I know I'm developing as person and improving my skills. If I wasn't, as you say, money wasted.

also economics doesn't work without Maths. Which is the reason why I can be a close observer of economics (especially of the Stock Exchanges), but I can't be an economist.
