Re: ~-* MS 1000 Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open *-~ Rog in the Desert!
Roger also had a tough draw in Indian Wells last year (Raonic, Bellucci, DelPo, Nadal, Isner), adding to this it wasn't even sure back then if he would be able to play as he had a cold.
Of course Roger went into the tournament with the confidence of having won in Rotterdam and Dubai.
I don't understand how people on GM can call the draw balanced for the topplayers but I don't understand many things over there
Like always I take the tournament round by round.
With Roger's luck he gets Gulbis as a qualifier in the first round who wins against Istomin...
Why does Benneteau has to be again in his draw?
I still haven't recovered from the match in Rotterdam

Re: ~-* MS 1000 Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open *-~ Rog in the Desert!
Well, I have to say I'm not even remotely optimistic about this one, especially the way he's been playing over the last few weeks: there are so many places he could potentially trip up. And fancy having 2 of the 3 people he's lost to already this year in his half (and rather closer) of the draw. Plus there's that Spanish guy in the QFs - all assuming that things even go to plan that far
Oh well, I reckon it'll all be happening while I'm asleep, which will at least save me biting my fingers down to the quick.

Looks like Roger practiced with Mardy Fish

Re: ~-* MS 1000 Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open *-~ Rog in the Desert!
my worry about the idea "Fed likes tough draws" is that it's not such a tough draw actually, but it's players he doesn't seem to enjoy to face or against whom he doesn't have good memories : Istomin, Benneteau, even Wawrinka we know he doesn't enjoy playing against him ...
I mean, when you don't seem to have much pleasure and confidence in tennis as it seems for Roger now, it's not the best : at least Raonic last year was a challenge he seems to enjoy, the same for Tomic or Davydenko in Australia ... and he was in much better mental conditions last year.
Istomin is number 23 in the Race, he's played well in the US indoor season and as I said the pace of the surface here is good for him, he defeated Ferrer here last year, mustn't be underestimated imo, even though he faces Pospisil in first round, who has crushed his two opponents in qualies something like 6-1 6-2.
Istomin was also very near from taking the first set from Roger in the Olympics last year, and he seemed to return him very well.
Benneteau should be less dangerous outdoors than indoors considering the way he plays against Fed. He could also be defeated by Dodig
Against Wawrinka anything can happen. I would prefer Isner personally ...
Quite funnily I think a windy Indian Wells might help Fed against those opponents but well, as I said it doesn't look like pleasant matches to play, matches to enjoy, to give confidence and good expectations.
I hope he's motivated for the hard work and concentration, not in holiday yet.
If he is, I don't think this draw is that tough and not drawing Murray in the semi, it could be a good opportunity to play a Masters 1000 final

yes, but it can also make it tougher to sleep, at least that's my problem when Roger has a dangerous match to face in the night

Winner of Istomin vs Pospisil it is then, for the second round!

What a bad news, this means there is no day off for him.
The good one is that meeting Nadal at the QF and if winning he would have an easier SF maybe against Ferrer before the Final but if he doesn't it'a even a poits problem. But let's look at the good things and try to live matches one by one.

That's good to know. You almost convinced me, and I'm very definitely in "Eeyore" mode at the moment.

Yes, it's mainly the mental side that's bothering me, too.

Surely can't be worse than sitting cursing at the livescore page when it refuses to update. And you should have heard me telling Roger what to do against Berdych the other day (all without seeing a stroke of the match, of course ) - and at work, too!
