Default Re: Will Nadal skip Roland Garros?

I really thought this was a fair thread, this is how I see it.

70-30 Nadal will play.

Nadal has made a comeback to clay however seems set to skip IW and Miscami.

He has had decent results BUT has not faced any real competition yet.

Now if he wins 2/3 or more of the clay RG warm up events, he will be good to go.

BUT, given he has been playing lower level tourneys, he really will be rusty. And as beatable as hes ever been in BO3 on clay.

Say he loses early in 2/3 of the clay masters.

Then he looks at a hyperthetical RG draw that has Del Po in 4th round and Djokovic in the quarters.

How on earth could he be in any way confident going in?

His 2011 RG campaign was a trainwreck all the way through and he didn't miss much if any time going in.

2013 he could be very shaky going into RG.

This doesn't mean he will skip it. But it is on the cards if he genuinely feels he cannot win.

Now since Nadal won many of his titles against a clownish Federer, it means Nadal's victories are also cheapened.
And finally, since Nole beat a clownish Nadal in many of his slam victories, his achievements are further cheapened.

Conclusion: everyone is a clown, playing in a neverending clown era.

He won't miss RG. Tendonitis is not a crippling disease. He's had plenty of rest. It's all about returning back to form, now.
There's also a big mental factor that Rafa now has to deal with. I think he'll crack under the pressure in one of the RG matches and lose in the early rounds to a heavy hitting ball basher like Isner or someone of similar stature. I'd be surprised if Nole couldn't beat this current state of Nadal at RG. It's his best chance ever at winning RG.

If I had said Nadal would not play another slam or masters event last July until April or May this year people would have said I was crazy. If I said Nadal will not play US or AO after losing to Rosol people would have said I was crazy.

If you actually follow the progression of missed events, it's statistically probable Nadal will skip RG, and I am the one being called crazy?

He probably will play RG. But if he doesn't win one clay masters series before RG, then his confidence will be at an all time low and Nadal has a knack for withdrawing from slams when he is low in confidence.
