Default Is tennis heading into a dark era?

I think it is.

Federer will not be contending for any more slams except for maybe wimbledon and even that is debatable after his serve seems to have gone AWOL.

Nadal looks like a washed up journeyman and will probably never get back to being his old self again. He might have a chance at another roland garros or two but thats it.

Which means almost every slam is going to end up with a Djokovic-Murray final. I have a feeling the vast majority of fans are already sick of this matchup because its just incredibly boring tennis for 5-6 hours, and also because the result is never in doubt, barring hurricane of course.

Adding to that, the only young player that MIGHT step up and become a contender in the next 3-4 years is Tomic and even that is debatable.

Nadal surely will win more GSs, Federer maybe. I dont see why you are so scared. Federer lost 1 match he didnt care about. Nadal plays just for 2 weeks now. They will be alright.

Those are only speculations. Someone steps down, someone steps up, that's inevitable, in any sport for that matter. The problem is, that two all-time greats are nearing their demise (though that's kind of kneejerk-ish too say), it will be tough for anyone to fill their shoes and the level of tennis and it's popularity will sink. But I'm sure someone will come - it always does. The current era won't last for long.

I think not!

Maybe there is a time Djokovic/Murray seems unbeatable, but the space wich will appear if Federer/Nadal go down will be filled by others. That might be players we even have not in our focus now. Even the existing yougsters may get a push, because their development is not finished now. You mentioned Tomic, but there are Raonic, Nishikori, Janowicz and so on, they are young not at the end of their development...

Raonic is the personification of the dark era. We need actual tennis players to save tennis.

Tennis is around for over 100 years, no player is bigger than the game - that goes for Fedal too.

Funny thing is, not all djoker king and Sir Murray matches are bad, we've had many great matches... Of course, Tennis fans are gready and can never be happy, always disrespecting players styles, even though they ALL play to win, not to put on a show, unless in exho.... it's not like Federer and Nadal never had a bad meeting is it?

I`ll miss Roger. But tennis will be as good as ever - game doesn`t depend on 1-2 players. Just like it is.

Well said.

you need to shift your atention off a single player (or a couple for that matter), and try to appreciate the sport in all it's levels (not necessary, of course) or, at least, not just focus on the players at the top winning the big titles. there's so much more

I like Djokovic and Murray individually but I hate their finals. It's like Simon & Monfils.

Federer and Nadal have had an absolute catalogue of SHITE matches against each other, funny how people's memories are so short.
