I don't think he was playing close to his absolute top form of recent years. He was playing very well, though.
In both final halves of their respective matches, DGT and Whore were playing extraordinarily good tennis, even by the strictest of standards. If they hadn't played the matches of their lifetime (especially Whore), however, they would not have been able to even compete.
That's an expanded yet concise summary of my opinion.
