Another R1 loss ; this time to a rusty Devvarman by 76 67 64 after wasting SP's on set 1. He also broke back at 4-4 on 3rd se but got broken next. The inconsistency is back , hope it gets better. Is he playing Dubai?

He landed in Ferrer's section: he has R1 vs Lorenzi and R2 vs Andujar. I wouldn't expect much, as it will be his 1st clay match and he is on a bad patch right now.

Another R1 exit, he lost 46 63 64 to Lorenzi . Kinda expected as it was his 1st clay match in a while, but still it's disappointing to get another loss ( now 4 in a row).

He was in the verge of losing but he came back from 57 25 vs Kubot to win 11 of the last 13 games ( 57 75 62) . Now a huge chance to beat Kohli as it will be the 1st match the german plays in a while.

LE MOINS QUE L’ON PUISSE DIRE, c’est que Benoît Paire n’est pas passé loin de la correctionnelle, hier à Indian Wells. Opposé au premier tour au Polonais Lukasz Kubot (94e mondial), le Français s’est retrouvé mené 7-5, 5-2, avant de renverser la tendance en remportant sept jeux de rang pour finalement s’imposer 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 en 2 h 08’ de jeu.

Depuis son arrivée en Californie, il n’avait pourtant pas de bonnes sensations. « Hier (mercredi), j’ai pris 6-0 contre Paulo (Mathieu) à l’entraînement et mardi 6-1 contre Lorenzi ; j’étais donc tendu, expliquait-t-il après la rencontre. Bien avant le match, j’avais demandé une raquette avec une tension spéciale et je ne l’ai reçue qu’à la fin du 2e set. Mentalement, ça m’aurait fait du bien de l’avoir avant. » Perturbé par cette histoire de raquette au début, on ne l’a ensuite plus entendu dire un seul mot, même lorsqu’il était au plus mal, symbole de son nouvel état d’esprit. « L’année dernière, je l’aurais perdu, ce match, avoua-t-il. Je me suis accroché et le mental a fait la différence. » Venu sans Lionel Zimbler mais encouragé notamment par son pote Édouard Roger-Vasselin, Benoît Paire – 40e cette semaine – décroche ainsi sa première victoire à Indian Wells et sa première victoire tout court depuis sa finale perdue à Montpellier début février contre Richard Gasquet – il avait ensuite enchaîné trois défaites au premier tour, à Rotterdam, Marseille et Acapulco. Un match qui, certes, ne restera pas dans les mémoires (14 breaks en tout) mais qui fait forcément du bien à la confiance. « C’est une victoire qui me fait très plaisir. Ça aurait pu être le fond du gouffre et là, au contraire, c’est reparti. Je suis très content et j’espère que ça va aller de mieux en mieux. Je pense que ça va me libérer. »

L’Avignonnais va donc pouvoir encore profiter des greens californiens avant de se mesurer au deuxième tour à Philipp Kohlschreiber (no 21). Un joueur qu’il n’a jamais battu mais contre lequel il avait frôlé la victoire au même stade de la compétition à l’US Open, l’an passé.
