Re: Commentary at its finest
Petchey talking about surface homogenisation somehow comes to the conclusion that:
"It certainly forces you to become an all court player. You can't be a top player today without being great at the net!"

Re: Commentary at its finest
Sky commentators (Petchey and Cowan, I think) discussing Nadal's alleged $2m appearance fee in Sao Paolo:
'But he's not happy, is he - the courts, the balls...'
'That's almost $100,000 for each complaint!'

Re: Commentary at its finest
Mark Petchey spouting absolutely nonsense as usual. Horrendous commentator both in knowledge, cliche galore, tone and bias.
"Nadal arguably a better player now than when he left the tour".

Re: Commentary at its finest
Does anyone remember in which match it was that Gimelstob said, "Andy Murray is better than Rafael Nadal on every surface. He just doesn't know it yet."
It was a few years back, maybe 2008. I was talking about that the other day with someone and we had a good laugh.

If it was in 2007 he would have sounded a bit less ridiculous maybe, but if he said it in 2008 there's no way to justify that.

Commentators calling Djokovic unbeatable, and then Del Potro goes on a tear and bulldozes Novak to take the set

Re: Commentary at its finest
Some comedy gold from british Sky Sports guys:
-Remember that Davis Cup 2002 final where Mathieu blew that 2-0 lead?
- Yes, and probably still haven't recovered
- Well I heard he was seen leaving his hotel yesterday, 10 years later
Then after the moment in Almagro-Gasquet match where Gasquet wanted to challenge but Almagro convinced him not to(although Gasquet would've been right) and for whatever reason umpire started calling security on court:
- They start calling security on court, no idea why
- Chances are they think that Gasquet was robbed

Even as a huge Murray fan, I think it would be ridiculous at any point in their careers. I mean, even if it somehow looked feasible early on hards or grass, clay?
Anyway, I know it was pretty early in Gimelstob's commentating career, when he was popping out bold and asinine comments left and right to fill silence. Pretty sure it was '08.

Re: Commentary at its finest
Some idiot referred to Janko Tipsarevic as "Jankovic." He said, "So how is Jankovic doing?"
