Vina Del Mar FQR: Gianluca Naso def. Frederico Gil 7-5 6-3
Grande Naso on to the main draw! If he avoids hard courts as much as possible , then i would say solidifying a spot in the top 150 is a realistic goal for him this year.
regardless, this result clearly speaks more about Gil's form. dropping some important points here from last year, but I hope he can bounce back eventually and get back on track soon. was a tough qualy draw for him and got two solid victories against Brown and Arguello so better remain in good spirits.

Terrible result for Fred, just when I was finally starting to have some hope about his coming back. He need this win badly and he had a good draw actually. More important than the lost points, was the fact that he was starting to win cofidence, but this is a regression to where he was in the end of last year. Congrats to Naso and his fans.

I'm not sure if this signals anything about Gil's form, since he had two very quick wins against good opponents in qualifying.

I know this is not 2010/2011, but half of Gil of Monte Carlo QF and Estoril Final should be more than enough to beat this guys on clay without any problems...

For Gil to beat Brown and Arguello, it's not that impressive.

Consistency has never been Gil's strong suit though. I'd regard those runs as real flukes. He's a hardworking guy, but I think he has already overachieved. Around #120 is where he should normally be, in my opinion.

This! Not even in his best 150 wins of his carreer!

sure, but we know he's not precisely riding the best form of his career, huh? They are, both, tricky opponents to face in qualies and he won convincingly. plus, we know styles make matches and, on paper, Naso wouldn't have been the toughest challenge out of the 3.
i hope he bounces back, even if that could take a while.
