Were the 2012 GS winners the luckiest in the Open Era?
Djokovic - AO: Had to rely on a Nadal mini choke at 2-4 in the 5th.
Nadal - FO: Djoker had all the momentum and a break when the match was interrupted.
Federer - W: Indoor grass festival in semis and finals.
Murray - USO: The hurricane...in semis and finals
So, any other year with more lucky slam winners?

There were multiple chokes/errors in the AO12 final, from both guys. Nole could and possibly should have won it in 4.
The only reason the momentum was with Nole in the first place at RG was because of the weather. When it stopped being overcast, the better clay player took control again.
Wimbledon - Federer was already in control by the time the roof was closed, no? I might be misremembering that.
Obviously Murray had a lot of luck in the USO final but equally Nole took too long to adapt to the wind.

If the finalists had won the match in all these cases, we would have end up with:
AO: Nadal
FO: Djokovic
W: Murray
AO: Djokovic
So almost the same slam winners anyway. And I don't think that Federer was lucky to win Wimbledon, he had achieved that 6 times already.
I don't think that luck as anything to do with those results.

It was Djokovic who was actually very lucky that it started to rain in Paris. It was 6/4 6/3 2/0 for rafa till the moment when the conditions got really bad. Before that Rafa was totally in control!

Federer was not in control! He had just stolen the 2nd set, in which he was 2nd best player, to make it 1 set all. It was anyone's match at that point. |

But yes, they were all lucky...ESPECIALLY Murray. The other 3 had already proved that they could win.

No no no...how can you say Murray and Federer were lucky? Every Grand Slam winner was deserving. Everyone can always point to something (Nadal's backhand miss AO, Rain delay at FO, Roof at Wimbledon, Windy conditions at USO) but champions make their own luck. |

It's the final I remember least of 2012. I said I could be misremembering. When did the roof actually close? At what point in the third? |
