Re: Davis Cup
Milos won in three!
The guy obviously wanted to shake his opponent's hand while the team just mobbed him. The whole thing was slightly akward to watch.

Re: Davis Cup
I'm so happy! I was at York University when grant Connell singlehandedly demolished The Netherlands on a freezing cold weekend and love to see the progression of Canadian tennis to what it is today.
Was Galo Blanco among the celebrants after Milos' match? It had to be awkward for him.

Re: Davis Cup
Loyal fans deserve to savour this win, after so many years in Americas Group 1 and even Americas Group 2 (oh that loss to Venezuela!). Thank you to all those players, especially Nestor, who plugged away year after year, mostly on their worst surface.
Playing Italy at home will be similar to this weekend's challenge. Bring on Djokovic in the semifinals! I'm booking my ticket to Belgrade now!

Thank you, you've answered my question before I asked it. I was going to ask who would be the host between a potential Canada-Serbia semifinal, since I have no clue when/if the last time they played in DC.
Congratulations Canada, and good luck against Italy! I hope that semifinal comes to fruition.

Actually, there is no previous meeting between the two countries so they have to draw log to decide.
Same for Canada vs Italy.

Re: Davis Cup
Awesome tie To think that just a couple of years ago they were down 0-2 in Ecuador, and now they have a solid shot at making the semifinals.
Very good stuff from Milos, showed no signs of any pressure, knew he was the superior player and never doubted it. It's obvious, but the team will go as far as he can take them.

Re: Davis Cup
Milos was SO loose yesterday. He is so confident in his game, not cocky but he totally believes he can do what he sets his mind to. Can't wait for April!

Re: Davis Cup
I've heard it from a few different people that we host Italy but how can it be decided (drawing lots) so soon? Assuming we do, it will be virtually duplicate circumstances. Their singles players prefer clay and rank in the 40s through 80s and they have a top ranking doubles team.
I doubt Frank will play with the same magic, but he can still win even if he plays at his usual level but up a notch or two higher, given the importance of the occasion (but not five or six!). Milos should even more handily beat Fognini and Lorzeni (or whomever). Selection will be really tricky - who gets left out amongst Jesse, Frank, and Vasek. I guess it depends on results till then, but you can't pick two guys just for doubles in our case. If Vasek isn't going well, I'd play Frank in the first singles and doubles, and then Jesse in the final singles. (It was only a dead rubber and maybe 'cause it was a dead rubber, but Frank was nowhere's near where he was on Friday). You could, though it was would politically impossible, to not pick Daniel, to give more options in the No. 2 singles, but I don't think Frank and Vasek, for example, would together play any better. Not selecting Jesse where he may very well be ranked 30 or 40 points ahead of the other two, and is waiting in the wings, would be hard, but his is very much a case of jumping on the bandwagon.
I guess in the end, if guys are playing on tour as they are now, that its of case of not breaking what ain't broke and selecting the exact same squad.

Re: Davis Cup
re: home court, the drawing of lots is all done at beginning of year - see: http://www.daviscup.com/en/results/world-group.aspx ... so we are home vs. Italy but if we beat them, we'll be away at Serbia or US for semi's. If a miracle occurs, and we get to finals, we'll be home again (unless our opponent is France).
re: No. 2 singles guy for next tie, yes it is going to be interesting which 2 of Levine, Frank, Vasek get picked. But this is a good problem to have I think (been a long time since we had this problem I think).
Also note Canada is now #8 in the world! ... see: http://www.daviscup.com/en/rankings/...-rankings.aspx.

I didn't think they previously met. sdmartin just mentioned that these draws are done at the beginning of the year, I didn't know that.

Re: Davis Cup
You would play USA at home. Unless the previous tie (1965) is too old to count?
