so how is Nole the first in open era to win AO 3 times in a row?

Because he did not.  There is no guarantee he would win if he played that year and that's why AO did not claim Agassi is the first in open era to win 3 AO in a row.

If we're going by this kind of logic, then Kim Clijsters was undefeated in the US Open for seven years, or from 2005 to 2012, winning the title three times in a row.
Does that sound dumb or does that sound stupid? |

It was actually considered as an unbeaten streak for Clijsters, so you fail. But Djokovic is the only one to defend his AO twice, yes. |
