Re: Is Ferrer the most undeserving top 5 player ever?
guys like bjorkman, rusedski, pioline, gaudio were top5 at one point.someone like Magnus Norman was as high as #2 etc...Doubt they had brilliant H2H vs the very best players at the time (and we could find a lot more examples)
besides that, Ferrer performs better that the guys just behind him, and it's not like these guys (Delpo, berdych, Tsonga, Tipsy etc...)have excellent H2H vs the top4 either so...
He earned his rank and deserves ùore crdit than what he get imho

Re: Is Ferrer the most undeserving top 5 player ever?
He deserves it.
Last 4 slams FO-W-US-AO
Djokovic - F-SF-F-W
Murray - QF-F-W-F
Federer - SF-W-QF-SF
Ferrer - SF-QF-SF-SF
looking at his results he has done almost as good as Federer in slams.

Re: Is Ferrer the most undeserving top 5 player ever?
This thread still going? Thought we had already established that the answer is a resounding yes (along with Boredo). Hopefully some of the remaining doubters will be converted as the endless cycle keeps repeating itself: vulture blocks the progress of players who could be a much bigger threat in the late stages of big events and then proceeds to lay an egg on the big stage for the upteenth time not taking even a single set.

That is hilarious. If those players are good, they have to beat Ferrer. He's an ultimate mug filter - before facing the big boys, you need to beat him. Don't be mad, "the vulture" owns Del Bashtro in h2h

Re: Is Ferrer the most undeserving top 5 player ever?
He's not undeserving, just unfortunately I don't think in recent history we've had such a gulf between 1-4 and the rest. It makes him look worse than he is... coupled with his boring style and lack of weapons it certainly isn't good for the image of the game. But until new blood comes through, good on you Ferrer!

Good one. They aren't good enough to beat him, so he has to step aside for them.

Re: Is Ferrer the most undeserving top 5 player ever?
James Blake finished 2006 at number 4. Comparing the numbers:
(Ferrer / Blake)
Titles: 19 / 10
Masters Titles: 1 / 0
Career Win-loss: 66.8 / 59.6
GS Win-Loss: 70.3 / 60.2
Masters Win-Loss: 60.8 / 54.9
Top 10 Win-Loss: 37.3 / 26.0
I'd say Blake is less deserving than Ferrer

"Mug filter!"
This is the best expression ever.

And against Nadal the matches were close. In that Rome epic he was 2 points away from wining. Nadal maybe wasn't at his peak as a player, but on clay he was unbeatable pretty much since 2005. I think he did not lose a match on clay that season since his first title and was unbeaten untill 2007. Peak Coria was definitely superior to Ferrer, although the latter had a much longer career obviously.

Well, if Coria was not vulnerable to surprise losses, then how did he not win RG? Of course the choke to Gaudio was special, but the reason why it was his only final was that he got beaten by someone else in other years. He lost to Verkerk, Davydenko...
And my point is precisely that Nadal wasn't there.
Ferrer also routines easily any inferior opponent, that's even his trademark. And if he hadn't lost to Rafa so often, his stats on clay would be pretty similar to Coria's.
Also, Coria for various reasons was unable to keep playing at this level for long, so in that regard Ferrer is far superior which probably makes up for the areas in which he can be considered inferior.

Bjorkman maybe but Rusedski and Pioline are better than Ferrer. They won Masters titles and reached slam finals.

As proved by last night's result and showing, the answer is a resounding yes.

Re: Is Ferrer the most undeserving top 5 player ever?
Facts quite clearly show that he is better than Tsonga and Berdych.
Del Potro, fluke US Open aside gets crushed by Ferrer every time they play so who else deserves to take his place?

Re: Is Ferrer the most undeserving top 5 player ever?
He certainly deserves to be bashed after what he did today. He is overranked thanks to his easy draws in slams/vulturing/the inconsistency of Berdych-Tsonga and the other talented players/Injury-prone players like Delpo & Kei etc.
