Re: David Pics Ferrer
I love this thread. It's important for newer MTF readers to know the origins of this nickname.

No. I think "The wall" is the favourite amongst commentators.

Re: David Pics Ferrer
I always thought "wolverine" would be a good nickname:
"A stocky and muscular carnivore, more closely resembling a small bear than other mustelids. The wolverine has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with the documented ability to kill prey many times its size."

All you need to see are the first few posts to get the gist of it. An MTF user posted this thread with no explanation and no attempt to correct their English mistakes after people responded with questions. The thread became very popular as more people discovered it and found it funny, and the nickname stuck.

Re: David Pics Ferrer
Quote from the following:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_F...and_reputation
Playing Style and Reputation:
Ferrer is noted for being one of the more dogged, agile and fit players on the tour. Occasionally known as 'The Wall', 'Pics', 'Le Grinder', 'Vulturrer' or 'The Cat', Ferrer has won many matches through consistent baseline play along with great fitness, foot speed and determination.[13] He is also affectionately known by tennis fans as 'Pics' after an infamous forum thread posted in September 2007, presumably the result of broken English...
End Quote.
While watching Australian Open QF against Almagro the commentators were referring to Ferrer as having a 'vulture like mentality' when it came to rescuing himself in difficult situations. personally I think the cat or Tiger are better nicknames than Pics. But then again he is the Pics of the current bunch of tennis players, ha ha ha.
Sorry...
