Re: AO 2013 "Tennis Draw" Game
GSM Delpo. What a match this was. Let's hope the Nishikori vs Del Potro final can live up to this standard. Should wait for Pratik to start the final, I think, it's his game, so he should kickstart it.

Re: AO 2013 "Tennis Draw" Game
Delpo vs Kei final, awesome Will be splitting my votes in that one, hope for a 5-set epic. But does Delpo have enough in the tank to beat Kei after this 5-set epic? Beating Federer in an MTF game is tougher than beating Nadal on clay. Meanwhile, Kei has blasted through the draw so far and will be fresh and confident.

Re: AO 2013 "Tennis Draw" Game
Good for the game, literally and figuratively.
This would have never happened in the Seed Elimination Game.
Great job, Pratik.

Agree. Federer in the final would have made it very boring imo. Although Kei has been winning every round easily, only Delpo can in any way challenge Federer in a popularity contest (even if with a great format like this one) on MTF. And yes, this >>>>>>>>> Seed Elimination Game.
Pratik, before starting the final, you should announce it in the OP title imo, to draw in more voters. Looking at the name of the game in GM might not make people click, but if they see 'AO 2013 Tennis Draw Game Final: Del Potro vs Nishikori', more might click to vote. In early rounds, there's no space to even mention the fixtures in the title, but in the final there surely is.

As a trial run, no one was sure how many participants the game would get. In the interest of finishing in a timely manner, the earlier rounds were made shorter.
But I think, too, after playing it through, making every round point-by-point would be far too tiresome, especially since it would mean enduring many matches which people have no interest in. It's important to keep participants interested.
While that makes every player more vulnerable due to the shoot-out style of the early rounds. Voting them through appropriately earns their right to a more forgiving format, I think.

Re: AO 2013 "Tennis Draw" Game
Agree with BackhandDTL here. Ideally, the game should be completed within the two weeks the GS tournaments lasts. Besides, most matches in the first few rounds aren't very interesting so if we stretch them out unnecessarily people are bound to lose interest. Gradually increasing the length of the rounds is the best way to go about this; it allows for some upsets early on and then in the late stages the guys who went past that 'shootout' duke it out in more forgiving formats. The format used in this game was almost perfect imo.
With that said, let's take a look at both men's run to the final:
Nishikori:
Quote:
R1: Nishikori def. Hanescu 6-1
R2: Nishikori def. Berlocq 6-0
R3: Nishikori def. Ungur 6-3 6-0
R4: Nishikori def. Bagdathis 6-1 6-1 5-7 6-2
QF: Nishikori def. Janowicz 6-2, 6-0, 6-1
SF: Nishikori def. Wawrinka 6-2 6-1 6-2
Sets: 13-1 Games: 83-23 (+60)
|
Del Potro:
Quote:
R1: Del Potro def. Qualifier 6-0
R2: Del Potro def. Becker 6-2
R3: Del Potro def. Chardy 6-4 6-2
R4: Del Potro def. Cilic 6-4 3-6 6-3 1-6 6-3
QF: Del Potro def. Monfils 6-4 6-4 6-3
SF: Del Potro def. Federer 3-6, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3
Sets: 13-4 Games: 90-61 (+29)
|
Kei's ominous form makes him the slight favorite for the final, but Del Potro has shown incredible mental resilience to win five setters over Cilic and tournament favorite Federer, not to mention he's known for his legendary stamina and endurance. This will be a great one for sure.
