Well, Pics was also playing worse than I've seen him play since early-2010
had he lost this match, it may very well have been the beginning of his rankings decline
although you're right... he did choke only a little less than Almagro

And for once I think you and pusher for life would be correct in saying that the better player lost today (barring that 5th set). For the greater part of 4 sets I think Almagro was the better player and just couldn't mentally bring it together

This type of match you sometimes lose once in career, Almagro has lost 3 times:

Code:
1. UO '08: Muller 7-6(3) 6-3 6-7(5) 6-7(6) 5-7
2. RG '11: Kubot 6-3 6-2 6-7(3) 6-7(5) 4-6
3. AO '13: Ferrer 6-4 6-4 5-7 6-7(4) 2-6
1. Double match point in the 4th set TB, broken once - the last game of the match
2. 5:4* (30-15) in the 3rd set, 4:2* (40-15) in the 4th set and 3:0* in the 5th set!
3. 5:3* in the 3rd set, 5:4 (deuce); *5:4 (deuce) in the 4th set

Time for Wimbledon

Man what a heartbreaking defeat for Almagro, there's just not much analyzing to do after such choking and folding under pressure like that. i'm sure he will eventually defeat David but this match/opportunity was way above that simple statistical number, and makes it quite painful for sure. I bet it was difficult for him just to get some sleep after such an event, just to say the least.

That image of Almagro's whole body language and inability to move in the fifth set, just after the collapse in the 4th, has to be one of the saddest and most depressing of the whole tournament

This was the most hilarious match I've seen in years. Whereas Simon-Monfils was like having your balls zapped by CIA interrogators, this one was like going to the circus and seeing the trapeze act continuously fail to perform their stunts.

I felt for Almugro at the end. I don't dislike him but it was quite painful watching him choke over and over again.

He didn't, he was three times two points away and never close to win a point which would have given him m.p.

Another heartbreaking loss.
This AO ist just too much.

First Stan, than Nico.

He was the better player IMO, like in their last match in Madrid.

Ferrer was ok, but not as good as expected.

Almagro was in great shape, probably the best of his career.

Leading 2-0 sets against World N0.4 in a Slam where he has not lost a set so far.

Almagro served 3 times for match and failed all 3 times.

Too big choke . Too much.

“Does Djokovic resemble myself?” Agassi said. “No, he is even better. He defends really well, while I struggled more in that element of the game. Novak looks totally relaxed when defending, completely calm and the quality of his return is incredible. He is also extremely flexible in his game, which is facilitated by his ability to anticipate his rival’s moves. That is why I think he is a much more versatile player than I was and he is also much more athletic.”
