A) Never or B) When he finally proves himself and wins another big title (and I really don't necessarily mean a GS), because it wontvbe hype anymore.

The Delpo hype is the one that most annoys me tbh. I don't quite get where it comes from, expect from the fact that the guy is sweet.

Tbh, DelPo is the youngest guy who actually did something and who can also do something further on. Hyping him makes far more sense then hyping Dimitrov&co.

Delpo is 24y.o., one yearyounger than Nole and Murray. Dimitrov is what, 21? Not a fair comparison.

Besides, obviously he is better than them, but that does not justify all the big hype going on about him for almost () 4 years now... he is always the one likely to beat the top4 in a slam, yet he rarely does.

More like sitting in the middle there, one year and a half younger then Nole/Andy and 2 and a half older than Dimitrov, also didn't play that many matches obviously. In any case, he's still the only one with realistic chance of making some waves in top 10, others not so much.

The worst bit about the hype is that his diehard fanboys still believe the reason he loses matches against the top guys is because of the wrist surgery he had 3 years ago.

The real reason is that he has zero plan b when his ball bashing ceases to work...

He's a very likeable guy, probably the most likeable out of the top bunch. His lack of athleticism is his major weakness. Even in the US Open 2009 when his shot making was powerful and precise, he wasn't the most athletic. However he was atheltic enough, I don't think he'll ever regain that level athleticism because he appears to be very languid by nature and quite lazy sometimes on court. The courts don't favour him either, but he remains a threat, a reasonable enough threat to the top guys. Even with the lop sided record against the top 4, I still think the top 4 do not want to playing him as they know there's always that threat.

Good luck to him.

Nole and Andrey born in May and Delpo in September. It's a year and a third.

And I do believe he seems to be more capable of upsetting the top4. But that still does not justify the immense hype there Has been around him for over 3 years now. I have said it before and I will keep believing it until he wins a MS or does some damage in a slam. Delpo = most overrated player on MTF.

The hype will stop when he retires having 1 slam win in 2009.

Hi arm,

Yes, good post and very relevant bringing Golubev into the conversation. I agree with everything else you said as well... Very solid post..

Ajde.

Hype is justified. He'll win a slam this year.

Well, Nalbandian gets almost the same hype, and the last time he did something Agassi was still top player

Default Re: Del Potro - When Will The Hype Stop?

There is a good thread already about this topic called "Is Del Potros 2009 US OPEN starting to look like a bit of a fluke", unfortunately I agreed with the lovely Sunset of Age to only bump it when Del Po does not win a slam

Look for it very soon however, I will be either eating my words or repeating my words.
