Re: J.P. Smith
JP lost in three sets in final round of qualifying to Souza.
I really thought he was going to win considering the heat, but maybe for the slightly built Smith, three tough matches in two days is too much strain.
Why does Sydney insist on playing the qualies over only two days? I am sure most of the other ATP events have qualifying over 3 days - just like Brisbane and Auckland.

Some of the players probably prefer it as it gives them an extra day before the AO Qualies.

Re: J.P. Smith
Got the WC for the AO. So exciting.
JP has a website: www.jpsmithtennis.com that is regularly updated if you are interested. Hope he gets a great draw at the Oz Open!

Re: J.P. Smith
Definitely a winnable match for JP, Souza's never really impressed me. Hopefully it will be on a tv court.

Re: J.P. Smith
Jipper looking confident and in form on the practise court on Saturday.
Last time he played Souza he was a bit tired from the previous match, hopefully this time a fresh JP can take Souza down.
Go JP

Re: J.P. Smith
Joao Sousa from Portugal and not Joao Souza from Brazil. It could be a close match but I think Sousa deserves to be the favourite. The winner plays Murray so a big opportunity for JP.

Re: J.P. Smith
and he went down 4/6 1/6 4/6.perhaps not quite over his abdominal injury sustained in sydney. What a shame as I felt this was a winnable match for him.

Jipper won the 2nd round of qualifying, so into the final round.
Hope he qualifies... one more match to win.
