Re: Maria Sharapova defeats Australia Junior Boy's Champion
Love the title which is an outright lie. Then goes on to say that one of the top women players almost lost a practice set against someone she is too embarrassed to mention, having to save 8 set points

Re: Maria Sharapova defeats Australia Junior Boy's Champion
Still, pretty embarrassing for a male junior to lose a set to Shrieka, even though it was just practice. I'm sure he has been practicing 10 hours a day since then just to make up for that slip up.

Re: Maria Sharapova defeats Australia Junior Boy's Champion
Women's tennis is a scam. I actually feel bad for Sharapova and the other women who actually think of themselves as tennis players (not the Williams of course), they are victims of Billy Jean King's feverish dream and Bobby Riggs's million dollar gambling fix. Since the 70s, WTA has only become more corrupt, with more money wasted on a sport no one watches and more promotion of players who can't play. "Feminism" has been a good defense against the simple truth that everyone knows: women's tennis is not tennis.

For the record, Thanasi Kokkinakis who Sharapova beat, is ranked 758th in the world.

He is one of the rising stars of Australian tennis, and tennis Australia has high hopes for him.

Serve-bot Serena would probably beat Tomic in a tight match. Have you ever seen Serena play? Sometimes, she's ATP material.

I hope you're not serious. Tomic would win 6-0, 6-0 (6-0) in any tournament including Wimbledon, if he could just stay motivated enough to aim for bagels.

Re: Maria Sharapova defeats Australia Junior Boy's Champion
Man, these WTA tards who kept saying "misogynist", "misogynist" and "misogynist" are starting to get on my nerves.
Look, if you're really a tennis fan, male or female, I don't care, at least learn a little about tennis. get an understanding about the game. study it. THEN, you will know that it is NOT misogynist to say that Serena or Sharapova or whoever else the WTA has to offer, has very, very, very little chance to get to the ATP top 250. It is, in fact, a very solid and reasonable statement.

Interesting comments, Maria

So much crying about how hard women can hit and how "mentally tough" women are lol. Anyone with a brain knows that it's the variety that would destroy any women against a top 500 player. Heavy topspin, slice, kick serves, drop shots with backspin, drop volleys, none of these exist on the women's "tennis" tour.
Let's look at some facts. There is only one woman on the entire WTA tour who can hit a kick serve, and her whole game is devoted to it. She hit top 10 and won a slam with basically that skill alone. Any man who can hit a real kick serve would easily hold serve against Shriekapova or any other woman. There is one woman, maybe two or three on rare occasion, who can hit 120 on serve and can hit aces. She is easily the #1 player and a GOAT candidate because women have poor returns. Every man on tour, including juniors, easily hits mid-120s and nowadays 130 is the norm. If you couldn't return a 120 out wide serve with ease on today's tour, you would not be near the top 1000. Finally, there are no female players who hit with consistent topspin on backhand and forehand, the last one I know of is Henin and she was also a GOAT candidate because of her variety. However, she was tiny and hit with a fraction of the pace of Serena and the other ballbashers at the top. Someone like Petzschner, who is outside the top 100 at the moment, would easily destroy Serena 6-0 6-0 with variety.
That's not to say there was a past "golden age" of women. Before the current generation, the players served and hit the ball at a fraction of the pace of the men, women sacrificed variety to hit it hard because they are fundamentally limited by their bodies.
To say this is sexism is like saying biology is sexism (which I wouldn't be surprised to hear from some WTA fans).

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Short of tournament sharpness in the build-up to the Australian Open because of injury, Maria Sharapova has found a novel way of playing herself into form - roughing up the local boys.
The Russian world number two has been getting into the groove by beating up on Australia's top young players, having pulled out of Brisbane with a neck injury last week.
Sharapova has found some willing opponents in a couple of Australians, including Luke Saville, last year's junior champion at Melbourne Park.
"I played a couple of the junior boys here - actually a good couple of Australian kids," Sharapova told reporters on Saturday.
"I think one of them got a wild card in the main draw."
That was Saville, who gave French Open champion Sharapova a real run for her money as she looked to blow away the cobwebs in time for her run at a second Australian Open title.
"We didn't actually finish," the four-time grand slam champion said. "The set took too long." The other hitting partner was 16-year-old Thanasi Kokkinakis, a player tipped as having a bright future and who impressed when stepping in for the injured John Isner at the Hopman Cup last week. Unfortunately for Kokkinakis, Sharapova's fiercely competitive streak ensured that she would not allow him the pleasure of a victory.
"One of them was really on top of me and then I got really mad," said the 25-year-old, who tried to protect his identity. "I think he had eight set points and I ended up winning the set. "I'm not going to tell who it is," she laughed. "Too embarrassed. I don't think he slept well after that one! "It was just nice to be able to have different types of game styles as well."
Sharapova woke up with pain in her neck and collarbone area on December 23 and immediately pulled out of a planned exhibition in South Korea. Having spent almost a year off the women's tour in 2008-09 after surgery on a career-threatening shoulder injury, Sharapova admitted she was wary of any pain in that part of her body.
But the 2008 Australian Open champion said she hoped her experience would see her through if her game hits full throttle in time.
"You maybe give yourself that extra slack in case you do make a few more errors (or) you don't concentrate maybe as well as you would if you were in that match groove," said Sharpova. "But just because you're rusty doesn't mean you're not going to play well," she added. You might maybe go for a little bit more in certain situations." Sharapova takes on fellow Russian Olga Puchkova in the first round on Monday.

Re: Maria Sharapova defeats Australia Junior Boy's Champion
Wow! If that was true that Sharapova beat last year's junior champion and a player from the main draw this year - that would be stunning news!!
A lot of people believe that even Serena couldn't beat a Top 500 player! So that's very interesting...
Well, I personaly believe that a very few women (Serena & some others) could at least trouble some ATP-players on a surface of their choice. Serena could win some games against anybody just because of her serve I guess...
I'd love to see Serena vs male top player on grass

Re: Maria Sharapova defeats Australia Junior Boy's Champion
Luke Saville will be 19 in a few weeks. I'm sure you can think of a lot of players who'd won ATP tournaments at that age. He is also in the top 500. The other guy is in the top 1000...
Maria is on fire
