On the map in the original post, Melbourne is 20 degrees C. Sure there record temps over 1000kms away.... but isn't it a bit like quoting a record temp in the Spain and deciding that a week later it will be hot in Poland???
Australia is rather large overall.

Once again, the +45°c heat you see on television is far away from Melbourne. And next week it will be fresher, still very warm but tolerable.
