Re: Nadal OUT of the Australian Open
That's right decision of course. If Rafa is not ready, then he should not play. Starting the season at clay tournaments might be actually a good idea.
Btw, Fed did not have mono at AO. Ancic had mono, Soderling had mono, Fed never did. He just made up this story because him never being injured or sick makes everyone suspicious. I guess he believes he may be jinxed too. Or Mirka does. And we know who rules in that family.

I agree. This is yet another example of just how great the mighty Fed really is and how a meh of a player Nadal is turning in his decline.
As far as mono deniers, what a sad bunch...

Yes, Federer should have only played the 17 slams he won.

It seems like Federer likes playing while Nadal likes winning.
Nothing else to deduce from this "I won't play because I can't win" withdrawal.

Exactly the opposite is true. Federer never liked playing. He liked toying and practicing but not playing tennis. And surely the only thing he cares about is winning. He himself told that.
Nadal likes to play tennis, every point, regardless of the score. He enjoys tennis itself. Right now he can't play, that happens. When Sharapova was out for more than a year because of the shoulder injury, no one believed she would be back. She was patient, she recovered, came back and completed her career GS. I am sure Rafa will be back too. It's just not the time, yet.

Perhaps your brother is not a world class supremely gifted athlete with perfect physical preparation and a fine tuned training regime... perhaps he's just naturally unindustrious.

Of course every top player likes winning. But it also helps if you additionally enjoy the process and have a passion for participating in the tour.
